Lot 505

1967 Morgan Plus 4 Roadster Registration no. Not UK Registered (Taxes Paid) Chassis no. 6463 Engine no. CT75492•Imported from the USA•NOVA document available•Seats recently re-trimmed•Desirable left-hand driveFootnotes:Introduced in 1950, the Standard Vanguard-engined Plus 4 represented a major step forward in the evolution of the Morgan sports car. Although the traditional chassis layout was retained - what else would one expect from Morgan? - the frame underwent extensive alteration, gaining in both wheelbase and track dimensions while being considerably strengthened. The centrally mounted Moss gearbox was carried over from the 4/4. A few years later - in 1953 - Morgan began the process of updating the car's appearance, which culminated in the arrival of the quintessential Morgan look in 1954. One unfortunate consequence of the 2,088cc Vanguard engine's adoption was the fact that it placed the Plus 4 in the over-2-litre class for racing purposes, forcing it to compete against rivals of much larger capacity. As a result, the 1,991cc Triumph TR engine was made available from 1953, this more-powerful option being preferred by most customers. In 1956 the revised TR3 power unit began to be phased in, offering 100bhp and making the Plus 4 'the cheapest 100mph car made in Britain' according to The Motor magazine. Around 1961, Plus 4s began to leave the Malvern factory fitted with the 2,138cc TR4 engine and from 1965 with the 104bhp TR4A unit, the latter cars representing the Triumph-engined Morgan in its ultimate form. This left-hand drive Plus 4 has been imported from the USA and comes with the all-important NOVA document. The vendor advises us that it is a matching-numbers car that has spent most of its life in the dry climate of Arizona. The odometer reading is 58,487 miles, which the vendor believes may be genuine judging from the car's condition. At present the car runs well, but having been laid up for two years requires brake and clutch work and a thorough inspection of the electrics as it has some issues with the indicators, though we are advised these faults are relatively easy to fix on these cars. The Morgan comes complete with a soft-top, which is worn and may need replacing; it also has side windows in good condition. The seats have just been rebuilt and trimmed in black leather. This Morgan is far from being a 'barn find', and with a little 'TLC' could be a great weekend driver. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 424

Attractively presented in Metallic Graphite with Ox Blood hide, and having covered only 3,475 miles from new, this little 4/4 has obviously led a charmed life.Originally ordered on 4th September 1976, through Deer Leap Garage in Berkhamsted, in the days when Morgan had an enviable order book, this particular 4/4 was destined not to reach its first owner, Mr F. N. Cory-Wright until 24th August 1983, with the specification changing from that originally ordered to the far more desirable vehicle which remains today as it left Malvern all those years ago. With the original owner travelling and working abroad as a Queens Messenger within the Diplomatic Corp, the car was destined to remain in storage for many years which it did until the owner's passing in 2016.It is noted that the very low mileage was recorded at that time as just 1,745 with, interestingly, several of the diplomatic bags remaining with the car to this day. The family then made the difficult decision to pass the Morgan on to a new home and accordingly it was fully recommissioned by Allon White Sports Cars, Morgan Dealers of some repute, with £5,000 being invested prior to its sale in October 2017.Sold again, some eighteen months later having covered a nominal additional 607 miles, to make way for a new Morgan, the 4/4 is as original as it could be with the exception of a new Dark Red mohair roof topping off the outstanding Metallic Grey bodywork and Dark Red hide interior. Featured in The Essential Morgan Buyers Guide by Phil Benfield, this exceptionally- low-mileage Morgan, now circa 3,500, comes highly recommended and is worthy of your serious consideration.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: 4/4 1600Year: 1983Chassis Number: C6385Registration Number: A207 BKUTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 130008-C4309Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 3475 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Ox Blood HideClick here for more details and images

Lot 429

An older restoration to a show standard, this delightful 400 would make a fast and stylish entry in next year's Mille Miglia.Imitation is said to be the most sincere form of flattery, however, it seems a little unlikely that BMW's engineers felt particularly gratified when the Bristol Car Company obtained the rights to their automotive designs as part of Germany's post-WW2 reparations. Although there was undoubtedly a significant input from the bright aeronautical engineers at Bristol, the 400, which commenced production in 1947, was effectively a synthesis of three pre-war BMW designs, with a chassis derived from that of the 326, an engine from the 328 sports car and an aerodynamic bodyshell similar to that of the 327 coupé. The 1,971cc six-cylinder engine of the BMW 328 featured an ingenious new cylinder head, designed by Rudolf Schleicher, incorporating hemispherical combustion chambers and inclined valves without recourse to overhead, or twin camshafts. Instead, the Type 319 engine's single block-mounted camshaft and pushrod valve actuation were retained, thus avoiding an expensive redesign. Two rocker shafts were employed, one situated above each bank of valves, giving the engine an external appearance almost indistinguishable from that of a twin-overhead-cam design. Downdraft inlet ports contributed to the motor's deep breathing, and its tunability made it a popular choice for British racing car constructors, most notably Cooper, during the 1950s. Externally, Bristol's Type 85A clone of the BMW motor differed little from the German original, the most obvious difference being the adoption of SU, rather than Solex, carburettors part way through production. The most significant changes made by the Bristol designers were metallurgical, their utilisation of the highest quality materials contributing to increased engine life. A maximum output of 80bhp at 4,200rpm was claimed, which was good enough for a top speed of around 95mph.The 400's aerodynamically efficient body was constructed of steel panels on a wooden frame, with the doors, bonnet and boot-lid skinned in aluminium. Beneath the skin, the chassis boasted independent front suspension by single upper wishbones and lower transverse leaf-springs, whilst torsion bars located within the chassis members controlled the live rear axle. Contrasting with the exterior's modern appearance, the traditional wood-embellished interior was reminiscent of an earlier age. In total, 474 Bristol 400s were made between 1947 and 1950 with, it's believed, around 120 still on the road. Dating from 1948, Chassis number #460-180, on offer here, is indeed one of those original cars. It has recently benefitted from a full bodywork refurbishment with any corrosion and rust being fully addressed and removed prior to being finished to a very high standard in a lovely shade of light metallic green (an Aston Martin colour we believe possibly California Sage). The interior has been refurbished with the same attention to detail as the bodywork and looks simply spectacular in fresh Biscuit hide piped in Chocolate with matching door cards, headlining and a new carpet. The wooden dash has been removed and refinished, all instrumentation is period and in good working order and a full tool kit is in its appointed place in a box in the engine bay. The boot has also benefitted from all this attention and looks splendid with new Cinnamon carpets edged in Chocolate. For over a decade, this lovely 400 has been the property of a well known Morgan dealer's family and has been properly looked after and fettled as required to a far higher standard than one might expect from less fastidious owners. In our vendor's words "You simply have to drive it to experience how good the taut handling is and how well the motor pulls though the lovely synchromesh gear box. It feels more like 1970 than 1948."Mille Miglia eligible, this car would make a stylish, fast and comfortable entrant to the famed event. This is undoubtedly the best example of a 400 we have seen and, although prepared to a show standard, JYM II remains a practical and versatile post-war classic.SpecificationMake: BRISTOLModel: 400Year: 1948Chassis Number: 460-180Registration Number: TBATransmission: ManualEngine Number: 850 1238Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: Biscuit LeatherClick here for more details and images

Reg. no. 636 CFMChassis no. TS 5081Engine no. TS 1081FRBy 1952, the Triumph Roadster was starting to look and feel somewhat outdated, with its distinctly pre-war styling, and it was never a particularly rapid car in the first place. Fearing being left behind in the sports car market, Triumph’s owners Standard tried to purchase the Morgan company. When this fell through, they instead embarked on the development process of an up-to-date sports car. The result of this, the experimental 20TS, was displayed in October 1952 at the London Motor Show. Standard then employed BRM engineer and test-driver Ken Richardson to test-drive the car, and his feedback led to changes to tame the prototype’s wayward handling. While the prototype was built on a Standard 8 chassis with Mayflower suspension and an engine lifted straight from the Vanguard, the production version, launched a year later, had a strengthened chassis with excellent rigidity, much-improved suspension, larger brakes and a tuned engine. The car was also widened and lengthened, increasing both passenger and luggage space. The resulting TR2 had a top speed of over 100mph, a huge increase over the 80mph of the prototype. The 90bhp 2-litre engine could also propel the car to 60 in 12 seconds – excellent performance for the time. Indeed, a standard TR2 fitted with optional streamlining devices reached just over 124mph on the Jabbeke motorway in Belgium in May 1953, making it one of the fastest British cars of the time. 1954 saw a 1-2 finish in the RAC rally, as the car proved an excellent motorsport competitor. This being the ‘export or die’ era for British manufacturers, the majority of the 8638 TR2s made to 1955 went to the United States in left-hand-drive form. This TR2 was first registered with the DVLA in January 1957 – this being over a year since the end of production. Going by the chassis number and the Vintage Triumph Register’s list of surviving TR2s, it is actually a 1954 car. Restored at some point in the past, it remains in solid condition, with a very good interior, hood and sidescreens. A tonneau cover is also present. The bodywork is solid, although there is some micro-blistering and spidering to most areas of the paintwork. The chassis and underbody are good and appear to have been painted when the car was restored. The car has been stored for a while but has been started by the vendor with fresh petrol in the carburettors, and is said to sound good, with no evidence of oil leaks. Mindful of the potential effects of modern fuel, the tank has been drained and cleaned. The wiring is said to look good, while the tyres are also good, with the spare still present in its correct location. Following recommissioning, this TR2 would be a lovely car in which to enjoy the rest of the summer, and is also eligible for various historic motorsport events, including now VSCC hillclimbs. It comes with a current V5C.

1933 Morgan 1000cc Super SportsReg. no. OC 2816Chassis no. MR847Engine no. MX929By 1933, Morgan had been building its distinctive 3-wheeled cars for over 20 years. While these had started out as basic, extremely frugal transport – and non-sporting ‘Standard’ and ‘Family’ models were still available – the 3-wheeler had also been developed into a distinctly sporting vehicle, in the form of the ‘Aero’ and ‘Super-Sports’ models. Power was supplied by a variety of JAP and Matchless engines, depending on model. 1933 was also a significant year for the company, as they introduced the F-Series three-wheelers, with side-valve Ford engines. For the sporting motorist, however, the v-twins remained the weapon of choice, and today remain some of the most recognisable of pre-war sports cars, providing surprising performance and an iconic soundtrack. This 1933 Super-Sports, fitted with the 990cc Matchless MX engine, is in excellent all-round condition, having been restored in 2012. The bodywork and chassis are in very good all round condition, while the engine has been rebuilt with new steel flywheels and new bearings, plus a new coil. The gearbox has also been rebuilt, as has the propshaft. The wheels have also been rebuilt and fitted with new tyres, while the wheel bearings are also new. The Morgan’s distinctive suspension system has been fitted with new sliders front and rear. Upgrades consist of Mini hydraulic brakes, plus front and rear shock absorbers, meaning this 3-wheeler should handle and stop very well indeed. The car is also fitted with a GPS system, flashing indicators and wing mirrors, all very useful additions for modern driving. Eligible for all kinds of events with the VSCC, Morgan Three-Wheeler Club, and others, this exciting sports car comes with a current V5C.

1961 Morgan Plus 4 Make: Morgan Model: Plus 4 Year: 1961Mileage: 16963VIN: 4876Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: 852UYXTransmission: manualAlthough manufactured in 1961 (and thus fitted with the 2138cc Triumph TR4 engine), this Morgan Plus 4 was originally shipped to the USA used and registered abroad, receiving its British registration in October 2017. Since then it has had just one owner, the vendor. He bought it in 2016 and restored it from 2016 through to 2018, at a cost of £21,759. Most of these bills are in the paperwork folder, as is a Morgan chassis record (showing the car was originally Light Grey with red leather upholstery). The mileage shown on the odometer is 16,963 miles. The history file also includes the V5C, photos of the car during its restoration, and recent MoT certificates - although, as a 1961 car, the Morgan is now MoT-exempt, with its last one expiring in October 2018. There's also books on 'Morgan: The Cars and the Factory' by John Tipler, 'Original Morgan 4/4, Plus 4 and Plus 8' by John Worrall and Liz Turner and 'Morgan Cars 1960-1970' by Vic Berris plus a Brooklands' Morgan Four Owners' Workshop Manual and Buying Portfolio and a 1964 'Small Car' magazine and 2017 'Classic Motoring' magazine featuring Morgan articles. Thanks to its recent restoration, the Morgan is in very good condition throughout. However, the engine, gearbox (Moss four-speed) and rear axle numbers all still match the Morgan Motor Company certificate, which indicates they are original items. The two bonnet halves are also matching, as supported by the numbers stamped onto each half - something that should impress all enthusiasts who prize originality. Beautiful 'First Edition' Plus Six in the Moonstone Blue launch colour with only 1,325 miles. The Morgan Motor Company’s arrival in the 21st Century was signalled by its first new model in 19 years, the Plus Six and the fact that they were now taking themselves very seriously was the model’s first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019 and not in the ballroom at the Abbey Hotel in Malvern as had been the case with previous new car launches. It may look like any other Morgan, but looks can be deceptive. After 110 years of production, Morgan have completely transformed the car without changing the classic traditional look, in fact the only part this car shares with previous models is the bonnet catch. Underneath that classically styled bodywork lies Morgan’s new CX chassis, only the fourth new platform in Morgan’s 110 year history. (CX is 110 in Roman numerals). The CX-Generation aluminium bonded platform has been designed and developed for use in Morgan’s future high-performance models and features a 100% increase in torsional rigidity over the previous aluminium platform as well as being considerably lighter weighing-in at less than 100kg. In a nod to traditionalists, Morgan’s century-long association with wood continues with an Ash frame surrounding the cockpit with is designed to increase stiffness in that area.Snugly fitted underneath the Plus Six’s hand–rolled and hand punched aluminium bonnet is a 2,998cc, 24 valve, turbo-charged, straight-six cylinder power unit from BMW offering 335bhp @ 5,000rpm and 369lb.ft of torque @ 1,600rpm and coupled to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. This is the same engine that was fitted to the BMW Z4 and Toyota’s Supra at the time of the Plus Six’s launch in 2019, both cars admired for their sparkling performance. This was the first time that Morgan had fitted a straight-six and also their first foray into turbo-charging and the results were impressive with 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds on the way up to 166mph.As a result of the new underpinnings there’s a 20mm extension in the wheelbase, 200mm more leg room and an 80mm wider cockpit. As always there is no ‘proper’ boot, but the CX chassis allows for a much deeper rear parcel shelf behind the seats for your overnight bags and umbrellas. The Plus Six featured a new suspension set-up with a double-wishbone MacPherson-strut derived system at the front with a four-link set up at the rear. The Plus Six also benefited from a set of newly designed 19-inch multi-spoke wheels and electromechanical power-steering. Four models were offered initially with two versions known as the Plus Six First Edition in a choice of Emerald Green or Moonstone Blue. The First Edition on offer here dates from 2020 and is presented in Moonstone Blue with a dark blue soft-grain leather, Dark Grey box-weave carpets and 19-inch Frost Grey Alloys. It was optioned from new with air-conditioning, heated seats, Kenwood audio system, paint protection film, puddle lights, side-screen bags, a luggage rack, Cibie driving/spot lamps and a sports exhaust system - we understand that the final purchase price was just short of £90,000.Our vendor, the car's only owner from new, has recently found himself unable to truly enjoy the Morgan he had waited so long to own. He has reached a stage where jumping in and out is no longer possible and so he regretfully is offering it for sale so that someone else may enjoy it rather than it sitting around waiting. It’s covered a total of 1,324 miles, is in commensurate condition and will be accompanied by all the usual dealer paperwork, manuals and warranties etc. This is a thoroughly modern Morgan that will stand the test of time and being offered at a very, very generous guide, is bound to attract some serious interest. Lot 454

In production for less than two years, with just over 1,000 in RHD, these are very rare cars.Introduced in September 1975 for the 1976 model year with production only running until 1977, the interesting Carrera 3.0 is rightly regarded as somewhat of a special and rare model amongst the impact-bumper era, 911 model range. Following on after the MFI-engined Carrera 2.7, the 3.0 Carrera heralded the adoption of the newly developed Bosch K-Jetronic CIS fuel injection engine. This torque-rich, smooth and free-revving 3.0-litre engine, with a distinctive "cam' effect from 4,000rpm, produced 200 bhp and was effectively a naturally aspirated version of the 930 Turbo's drivetrain (using the same die-cast aluminium crankcase and gearbox housing for durability).Although having slightly less power than the outgoing Carrera 2.7, it had considerably more torque (188 lb.ft at 4,200 rpm) and with its new fuel injection system was one of the earliest Porsches to return economical fuel consumption figures without a significant performance loss. The Carrera 3.0 was able to accelerate from 0-60 mph and 0-100 mph in almost identical times to the original 2.7 RS and 2.7 Carrera. This respectable performance was aided further by the relatively light weight (1,093 kg) of the 3.0 Carrera compared to its successors. It is almost 6% lighter than the SC (1,160kg), almost 10% lighter than the 3.2 (1,210kg) and surprisingly, also weighs less than the later (1987-1989) stripped-down Carrera 3.2 Club Sport (1,170kg). During its short two-year life span, only 3,687 cars were built - a tiny amount compared to nearly 58,000 911 SCs and 76,500 3.2 Carreras produced. Of these, 2,564 were Coupés and 1,123 were Targas with only around 1,064 Coupés being manufactured in right-hand drive. Very few RHD cars reached the UK, and with just a two year production run, only 121 Carrera 3.0 Coupés (combined "Sport' and "Comfort' versions) are verified by their chassis numbers with the Porsche Club GB.Finished in Grand Prix White, this largely original Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera is in excellent condition throughout and is instantly recognisable by the Carrera side script and Fuchs alloys, a true 1970s poster car if ever there was one. It has an interesting past having been owned at one time by Keith Ripp, accessory brand creator of Rippspeed and renowned Rallycross driver and also featured in the ‘Original’ series of books, ‘Porsche 911 - The Restorers Guide to all Production Models 1963 – 93’ by Peter Morgan. A largely original example, it has formed part of a small private collection in recent years with little use during that time but has been maintained as required and will be presented at the sale with a recent service and a fresh MOT Certificate. With a limited production run of just two years, only 1,064 RHD Coupés rolled off the production line with few known to be still in existence today giving this particular example an air of exclusivity, ticking the rarity box within Porsche circles, meaning that this is most certainly one for the collector or 911 fanatic. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911 3.0 CARRERAYear: 1977Chassis Number: 9117600371Registration Number: UNM 750RTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 6670507Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 116150 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

J. Craig Thorpe (American, B. 1948) "Louisiana Locomotive" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on Paper. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting originally appeared on the Fleetwood Legendary Locomotives of the 50 States Louisiana Commemorative Cover postmarked May 8, 1995. Falling on hard times after the Civil War, the New Orleans, Opelousas & Great Western Railroad was sold at a sheriff's public auction in May 1869. The lucky bidder was Charles Morgan, operator of the first steamships on the Gulf of Mexico. After renaming his new purchase Morgan's Louisiana & Texas Railroad (ML&T), he later improved the road by changing it from broad to standard gauge. He is also credited with inaugurating a car ferry system across the Mississippi River. In addition to his transportation innovations, Morgan earned the respect of his fellow railroaders and employees by insisting that fair wages be paid in a timely fashion. This was particularly commendable, for many railroads of this era customarily allowed payrolls to fall in arrears. The punctual arrival of the ML&T pay car even inspired the regional expression, "regular as payday on the Morgan." Two years before his passing on May 8, 1878, Morgan was fittingly honored when the appreciative citizens of Brashear City, Louisiana, renamed their town Morgan City. Eventually the ML&T was taken over by the Southern Pacific Railroad, becoming part of the California-Texas-New Orleans main which is still in use today. Displayed here is ML&T's engine No. 47, a 4-4-0 passenger type built by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia around 1883. Acquired just before the road was taken over by the Southern Pacific, the engine sports the customary star emblem signifying the Morgan line. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 18 x 15 in. Unframed. (B15025)

2002 Morgan 4/4Roadster - From a deceased estate- Odometer reading 23,000 miles- Rigorous service history &garagedfrom newThe Plus 4 introduced in 1936 was the first design by Morgan to move away from their three-wheeled motorcycle models. Continuing on from its early production, engine capacity increased with the years, where in this case by the early 2000s sported the 1.8-lire Ford engine rather than the 1.1-lire Coventry Climax engine it began with. With 1930s styling, Morgan 4/4s remain popular amongst British enthusiasts due to their performance and reliability. Bought new from FH Douglas London by the deceased, the dealership maintained the car for its first three services. With the vendor being diligent in maintaining the car, the Morgan has been serviced every year for its entire life (excluding the COVID-19 pandemic 2020/21 year) by both Mole Valley motor group and Bell and Coalville in West Horsley, all of which is documented in the complete history file. Our Morgan is specd with red paintwork, black cloth roof and stone leather interior with red piping which all appears in smart condition likely thanks to its garage preservation. The vendor noted they had a luggage rack professionally fitted to the back of the vehicle to add to the vintage look of the car as well as for the practical advantage. With a manual 5-speed gearbox, rear-wheel-drive and a low driving position it offers an engaging driving experience behind the wheel.
