Nach der Matura durchlief sie eine Ausbildung zur Volksschullehrerin; 1940 bis 1941 unterrichtete sie im Metnitztal. Im Wintersemester 1940/1941 begann sie ein Studium der Malerei an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien bei Wilhelm Dachauer. Als Lassnig farbiger und expressiver malte, kam es zu Differenzen mit Dachauer. Hernach setzte sie ihr Studium in der Klasse von Ferdinand Andri fort, das sie 1945 mit dem Diplom abschloss. 1943 und 1944 erhielt sie das Gaustipendium Kärnten und im Februar 1945 ein Staatsreisestipendium, das mangels Reisemöglichkeiten ausbezahlt wurde. Nach ihrem Abschluss kehrte sie nach Klagenfurt zurück und bezog ein Atelier, wo sie die künstlerische Avantgarde Klagenfurts empfing: Arnold Clementschitsch, Michael Guttenbrunner, Max Hölzer und Arnold Wande. 1949 hatte sie in Klagenfurt in der Galerie von Edith Kleinmayr am Alten Platz ihre erste Einzelausstellung, auf der sie expressionistische Gemälde im Stil des „Kärntner Kolorismus“ zeigte. Um 1948 lernte sie Arnulf Rainer kennen, die beiden wurden ein Paar. Den Surrealismus bezeichnete Lassnig als „Befreiung von dem Gegenständlichen und Beabsichtigten“. 1951 zog Lassnig wieder nach Wien. In Wien war Lassnig im Umfeld der Künstlervereinigung „Art Club“ und in der „Hundsgruppe“ aktiv. 1951 erhielt Lassnig über das französische Kulturinstitut ein Stipendium, das ihr drei Reisen nach Paris ermöglichte. In Paris kontaktierten Lassnig und Rainer Paul Celan, der ein Treffen mit André Breton arrangierte, bei dem sie auch Benjamin Péret und Toyen kennenlernten. Sie sahen in Paris erstmals Bilder von Jackson Pollock und Georges Mathieu und lernten Jean-Paul Riopelle kennen, dem die Mappen der beiden gefielen. Riopelle machte sie mit Karel Appel, Hans Hartung und Wols bekannt. Bei Paul Celans Frau Gisèle Lestrange lernte Lassnig die Kaltnadelradierung, außerdem besuchte sie Camille Bryen. Zurück in Österreich, organisierten Lassnig und Rainer die kontroverse Ausstellung „Junge unfigurative Malerei“ im Künstlerhaus Klagenfurt; Lassnig formulierte dazu das Manifest „Keine Verteidigung“. 1954 kehrte sie an die Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien zurück, um in der Klasse von Albert Paris Gütersloh zu studieren. Gemeinsam mit Oswald Oberhuber, Wolfgang Hollegha, Josef Mikl, Markus Prachensky und Arnulf Rainer gehörte sie zum Kreis um Monsignore Otto Mauer, den kunstinteressierten Förderer und Gründer der Galerie nächst St. Stephan. Ein weiterer wichtiger Kontakt waren die Literaten der „Wiener Gruppe“ Friedrich Achleitner, H. C. Artmann, Gerhard Rühm und Oswald Wiener. Gemeinsam mit Arnulf Rainer gilt Lassnig als Begründerin der informellen Malerei in Österreich. 1961 bis 1968 lebte Lassnig in Paris und malte erste Körperbewusstseinsaquarelle sowie zwei Meter hohe Körpergefühls-Figurationen, die nie ausgestellt wurden. 1968 bezog Lassnig ein Atelier im East Village, New York. Es entstanden großformatige Seidensiebdrucke. 1970 belegte sie einen Zeichentrick-Kurs an der School of Visual Arts; sie experimentiert mit einer 16-mm-Filmkamera. 1974 gründete sie mit Carolee Schneemann die feministische Vereinigung „Women/Artists/Filmmakers“. 1977 wurde Lassnigs Werk erstmals in einer Retrospektive in der Albertina in Wien und im Kunstverein Kärnten gezeigt. Ein DAAD-Stipendium führte sie 1978 nach Berlin. 1980 kehrte sie endgültig nach Wien zurück und übernahm an der Hochschule für angewandte Kunst die Leitung der Meisterklasse für „Gestaltungslehre – experimentelles Gestalten“. Zur Bedingung machte sie die Mitarbeit des Kunsttheoretikers Heimo Kuchling und das gleiche Honorar wie Joseph Beuys. In Wien zählten Guido Hoffmann, Mara Mattuschka, Bady Minck und Sabine Groschup zu ihren Schülern. Gemeinsam mit Valie Export vertrat sie Österreich auf der Biennale in Venedig. 1982 gründete sie in ihrer Meisterklasse Österreichs einziges Lehrstudio für Trickfilm. Werke von Lassnig wurden 1982 auf der documenta 7 und 1997 auf der documenta X in Kassel ausgestellt. Lassnig hatte Einzelausstellungen im Museum des 20. Jahrhunderts in Wien, im Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, in der Kunsthalle Nürnberg, der Kärntner Landesgalerie, der Galerie Hundertmark in Köln, der Galerie Onnasch in Berlin, im Kunstmuseum Luzern; ab den 1990er Jahren auch in Paris, New York, Den Haag, Frankfurt am Main, Zürich, München und Rom. 2001 erhielt sie den Rubenspreis der Stadt Siegen und 2004 den Max-Beckmann-Preis der Stadt Frankfurt/Main. Anlässlich ihres 90. Geburtstages war 2010 in München eine umfangreiche Einzelausstellung der Künstlerin zu sehen. Zur Saison 2005/2006 gestaltete sie den Eisernen Vorhang der Wiener Staatsoper mit dem Bild „Frühstück mit Ohr“. Kennzeichnend für Lassnigs Werk ist u. a. eine neuartige Darstellung von Körperlichkeit, die sie ab den 1940er Jahren entwickelte. In den 1970er Jahren prägte sie für ihre Herangehensweise den Begriff „Body Awareness“, um sich damit vom „gefühlsseligen“ Begriff „Körpergefühl“ abzusetzen. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and began his career as a photographer in the late 1970s. Ritts is considered one of the most influential photographers of his time, and his images have become iconic in the world of fashion and popular culture.Ritts was known for his minimalist approach to photography, often using stark lighting and simple compositions to create powerful and striking images. He was especially skilled at capturing the beauty of the human form, and his images of models such as Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell helped to define the supermodel era of the 1980s and 1990s.In addition to his work as a photographer, Ritts was also a successful director and created music videos for artists such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson.
