A 1930s Merrythought Teddy Bear, with golden mohair, orange and black glass eyes, pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed limbs with brown felt pads, inoperative squeaker, woven label on foot and celluloid covered button in ear —16 ½in. (42cm.) high (thinning and wear to back, some general wear) - Designed by Florence Atwood in 1930, this is an example of one of their first bears, which made its debut in their 1931 catalogue. Merrythought used this actual bear as a prototype for an edition of The Merrythought Bear, made for TBW in 2022.
A Merrythought replica prototype for Bedtime Bertie Cheeky Teddy Bear, circa 1992, made for Unique, a replica of the 1977 bear, with blonde mohair and unjointed body, original pyjamas, dressing gown and rubber hot-water bottle and yellow label on foot —17 ½in. A rare Merrythought Punkinhead Teddy Bear, circa 1951, with brown mohair, clear and black glass eyes with white painted backs, inset velvet pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose and mouth, white long mohair topknot, pale brown mohair ear lining and belly, swivel head, jointed limbs with felt hand pads and velvet card lined feet, green felt shorts and printed yellow label on foot —10 ½in. (26.5cm.) high (faded and a little worn); a 1948 comic Punkinhead The Sad Little Bear (worn) and Punkinhead and Snow Fairy, dated 1949 for Eatons - Punkinhead was made exclusively as the mascot for Eaton's Department Store in Toronto. He became the hero of several storybooks, as well as the leader of the annual Santa Claus parade.
