1930s Mickey Mouse 6" Deans Rag Doll - Patent Dispute. Scarce, and very early Mickey Mouse Doll by Deans Rag Book Co (Rye, Sussex, UK) dating c1932 Crucial Registration Number on Neck: 730611 Subject to a bitter patent dispute with Walt Disney. Mickeys' condition is generally very good throughout, with only the lightest wear commensurate for its age. The velveteen/felt shows few signs of playwear, whilst the colours are rich, vivid, and truly supreme. T is no sign of moth-munching, and t is NO discolouration, no fading nor stains worth mentioning. His matching cheeky beady eyes along with his cheesey, toothy grin are as they left the factory. His shorts are in good order, and even boast ALL four matching yellow buttons still firmly sewn on. His ears are flawless, his feet fine. OK, some stitching has loosened slightly in places, but nothing is compromised, and all minor flaws are clearly visible in the high-resolution images. Mickey is ALL ORIGINAL! A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE! He proudly carries the all-important registration number on neck: 7 30611 He measures 6" / 17cm approx tip to toe. This doll is a truly great find, and is hardly ever seen in the USA. Forerunner to and rarer than other 1930s 'Mickey Doll' imposters: Knickerbocker Steiff Borgfelt (we understand that it was Deans Rag who battled the patent...)

Warhol, Andy: Jacqueline Kennedy III (Jackie III) Jacqueline Kennedy III (Jackie III) Farbsiebdruck auf festem Velin. 1966. 101,5 x 76 cm. Verso mit dem Künstlerstempel "Andy Warhol". Auflage 200 Ex. Feldman/Schellmann 15. He began his illustrious career as a foreign correspondent for Chicago Daily News and was dispatched to Paris in 1914. There he reported on events throughout the First World War, often sending riveting reports from the front-lines. By spring 1915 Mowrer was sent to cover events in Italy. He made personal acquaintance with Benito Mussolini and reported on devastating events at the battle at Caporetto. As a journalist Mowrer often sounded alarms about growing threats of rising fascism in Italy. In January 1924 Mowrer moved to Berlin where he worked with a distinguished group of correspondents, such as Herbert Knickerbocker, Dorothy Thompson, Walter Durranty and Eugene Lyons - who elected him president of the Foreign Press Association. He later remembered that: 'Berlin in the nineteen twenties was a kind of stopping off place not only for Russians heading West, but for the Americans entering or leaving the Soviet Union, including those who lived there and needed occasionally to come up for air.' No doubt that cosmopolitan group of friends with ties to the Soviet Union to some degree triggered Mowrer's fascination with socialist state which a decade later culminated in a long trip to Moscow and Leningrad. In Berlin Mowrer watched with growing concerns the growth of fascism in Germany as well as a consolidation of political power under Stalin in the Soviet Union. His unapologetic opposition to fascism expressed in articles and a book won him the highly acclaimed Pulitzer Prize in 1933 and essentially made him 'persona non grata' with regime in Germany after Hitler took office. In 1936 driven by his journalistic curiosity and sensing the inevitable escalation of the tensions in Europe, Mowrer and his wife embarked on a month-long trip to Moscow and Leningrad. It is believed that the present porcelain chess set was acquired during that trip. Given Mowrer's distrust of all totalitarian regimes and his critique of the Soviet system, he must have found this chess set to be a curious and rare examples of unapologetic socialist propaganda and a precious travel souvenir to cherish later on.Upon his return to the USA Mowrer continued his journalistic career both as columnist and later as a TV commentator and magazines editor, as well as the author of several critically claimed books on foreign affairs, future of diplomacy and global political balance. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: ** VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
