SECOND WORLD WAR - A RARE FRENCH SOLDIER'S PAINTED WOODEN SUITCASE the lid decorated with a front view of a tank with a rearing black horse device inscribed '5 D B G T 385', the reverse with a caricature saluting French soldier rinsing his eyes at a naked girl, a 1000 franc note, champagne and Galouise cigarette packet, the ends with a 'bellemere' girl putting on stockings, 51cm.

SECOND WORLD WAR AVIATION - 113 BOMBER SQUADRON - AN R.A.F. MAHOGANY AND BRASS CIGARETTE CASE carved with the 113 squadron device, with a typed letter describing details of bombing raids carried out by a Flt. Lt. Hawker and a history of the box from the original vendor; together with an Italian front 104 Bomber Squadron olive wood cigarette case inscribed 'Sorrento 1944', initialled 'E.M.C.', and with the logo of the 104th, (2). Note: No.113 Squadron initially served as a day bomber unit at R.A.F. Upper Heyford in May 1937 equipped with Hawker Hinds. In April 1938 it left for the Middle East, converting to Blenheims in June 1939. After Italy joined the war, on 11th June 1940, the unit participated in the first attack by the R.A.F. on the Italian air force base at El Adem, where eighteen aircraft were destroyed or damaged on the ground, against the loss of three British aircraft from three squadrons. On 12th June 1940 the squadron participated in an attack on Tobruk, damaging the Italian cruiser San Giorgio. The squadron then moved to Greece in March 1941. There it was overtaken by the German invasion and lost all its aircraft, the Squadron personnel being evacuated to Crete and Egypt. Bombing operations resumed in June 1941. After the outbreak of war in the Far East the squadron was moved to Burma, arriving on 7th January 1942 and immediately participating in the first allied bombing attack on Bangkok. A second raid was made on 24 January. The squadron attacked Japanese columns until it was evacuated to Calcutta in March. From Assam No.113 bombed Japanese communications and airfields until it converted to Hurricanes in March 1943. These were used for ground-attack duties, until replaced by Thunderbolts in April 1945, which were flown until the Squadron was disbanded on 15 October 1945.
SECOND WORLD WAR - A UNIQUE AND EMOTIVE FRENCH PRISONER OF WAR'S COLLECTION OF PERSONAL ITEMS RETAINED FROM HIS IMPRISONMENT IN RUSSIA (JUNE 1945 - OCTOBER 1945) including a shirt bought in Toulon 1940 worn in all the camps during that period, with handmade cutlery, cigarette holder, sample newspaper, cigarette, rosary, souvenir German belt buckle, Russian release papers and sample of food rations - including black bread, kasha and potatoes - the whole archive labelled in his own hand in French, some with transliterated Russian names, mounted for display in a framed glazed case, 64cm wide.
A Howard two seat sofa and two single armchairs in salmon pink ground abstract patterned upholstery, the back leg of one chair stamped "Howard Chairs 4B Sth Audley Street London W1 1744", the second chair stamped "1743", the back leg of the sofa stamped "Howard Chairs London W1 1801", all legs terminating in brass caps and castors, sofa 158 cm x 76 cm CONDITION REPORTS Chairs : some dirty grey marks to upholstery, some threads becoming loose, cigarette burn to one arm on one chair, fabric becoming worn in places, small chips and scratches to legs. Sofa : water marks to fabric, plus dirty grey marks, fabric becoming worn in places, legs with small chips, scratches, etc. General signs of wear and tear to all pieces throuhgout. We cannot comment on support given by sofa or chairs. All castors are present. Some creaking to the frame of the sofa when sat on, mainly on right-hand side and some creaking to one of the chairs when sat on. These are of no great age.
A rare London 1930 silver Dunhill of London compendium combined cigarette case with clock, lighter and a pair of ashtrays with engine turned decoration, singed Bando i.e. Matteo Cellini Clock is not working at present, heavily tarnished to the inside, lighter is intact no dents or scratches, sill has velvet lining for lighter and ashtrays/holders both unused, the gold cartouche to the front is engraved R.M. all hinges in tight working order, no deep scratches or damage
