He wrote The Modern Angler under the pen name of "Otter", and wrote for Fishing Tackle Market. He exhibited at the Great Fisheries Exhibition in 1883 and Suffolk Street in 1855., The work is sold with a letter dated 17 May 1856 referring to the Tayside Society and Fishing Club founded circa 1795.
