Rene Lalique - Statuette Cote D'Azur Trophy, with a design patent of 12th October 1929, a rare leaning forward nude designed specifically to commemorate the inaugural of the 'Cote d'Azur Pullman Express' in 1929. Given as a commemorative gift to the passangers of the train, few appear to have survived. The Statuette gives a brilliant impression of speed and motion, her left hand caressing her hair, her right-hand placed on her upper chest, holding her quickening heart! Beautifully created in satin and clear glass, the design was loosely based on the famous Vitesse car mascot, which was designed at about the same time. In excellent original condition, to the sides of the base are intaglio moulded, R. Lalique together with an explanation in a full inscription around the base, including the date, 'Cote d'Azur Pullman Express, September 1929'. 165mm high, the base is 127mm long by 54mm wide. Its conditon today is exemplary.
