Lot 3381

BUDDY L OUTDOOR TRAIN SET. Buddy L`s classic locomotive and tender produced in the 1930s, the engine itself is a 4-6-2 outline with an 8-wheel tender. For a youth to receive this as a present must have been a thrilling experience. The working side rods and valve gear as this was rolled along must have brought great joy to that child with such a large variety of cars that could be added to the train for years to come. This particular lot contains the engine, tender, boxcar and caboose along with two pieces of straight track. SIZE: Engine & Tender: 42"" l., Boxcar: 21"" l, Caboose: 19"" l. CONDITION: Engine and tender retain original paint with typical wear and a good cleaning would certainly brighten up the paint. Overall very good plus. Caboose and boxcar, enameled in red overall in good condition. As is typical, some deterioration to die cast couplings, but a good solid set. 1-14263

Lot 3382

BUDDY L BUS. Conceivably one of Buddy L`s largest, greatest pressed steel renditions of a real automotive toy. Opening front doors for the driver and passenger to enter this vehicle with room inside for 20 passengers in their pressed steel seats and furthermore the appealing construction and detailing such as the headlamps, nickel plated front bumper, dual cowl mounted spare tires must have made this a most appealing toy to the youth of the toy as well as to collectors today. Steering wheel inside the cab allows the front wheels to turn and for the direction to be controlled. Oftentimes due to the size this toy has excessive wear especially to the roof where the child would sit. This particular example although not mint, is in remarkable original condition. Decals are largely intact and perhaps the only negative aspect of this bus is a little bit of thinning paint and wear to the visor above the front wind shield? SIZE: 28-1/2"" long. CONDITION: As described above, a very fine example with some minimal uniform paint chipping overall and very little chipping to bus roof especially compared to most known surviving examples. 1-13987

Lot 3383

BUDDY L EXPRESS LINE TRUCK. An outstanding example of the screen sided Express Line truck from the 1920s. Usually this particular toy has excessive wear to the green roof where a child would sit and significant wear to the screen side as well. The paint on this vehicle is vibrant and shiny. The decals are largely intact and bright as well and even the polished aluminum wheels are bright showing virtually no signs of darkening and/or oxidation. The only negative one could spot with this vehicle is a padlock enclosing the rear doors that is of newer vintage. SIZE: 25"" long. CONDITION: As described above a fine outstanding all original example. 1-13989

Lot 3384

BUDDY L SAND AND GRAVEL TRUCK. A classic 1920s side dumping Buddy L truck with 2 operating doors on either side of the truck bed. Truck is enameled in black with decals largely intact and still retaining its original internal load separation panel. This must have been a great truck for the youth to play with, loading it up with sand or gravel or whatever was handy to him. The slightly ""V"" shaped bed would even permit the child to load 4 separate entities into the bed. A desirable and hard to find vehicle, this is a nice representative example. SIZE: 25"" long. CONDITION: Overall a nice solid original example with a handful of paint touch up spots to the cab roof. 1-13991

Lot 3385

BUDDY L JUNIOR SERIES STAKE BODY TRUCK. A very fine example of a later 1920s junior series stake truck with opening doors, nickel plated front bumper, matching head lights, rubber tires with dual rear tires. Painted in the typical black with red framework and yellow bed this toy retains original chain at rear and the bed which normally shows excessive wear shows some minor overall chipping. The toy itself could use a light cleaning to bring out the vibrancy of the paint which would certainly make this toy jump! A tough truck to find, especially in all original untouched condition! SIZE: 17"" l. CONDITION: As stated above, some chipping to paint on front fenders, otherwise very fine plus. 1-13988

Lot 3386

BUDDY L WRECKING TRUCK. The classic 1920s Buddy L wrecking truck was perfect for the young boy who came to the assistance of his brother`s broken down delivery truck by means of an elaborate geared winching system. Employing several die cast gears, which often deteriorate with age. The gears on this particular truck were replaced some time ago, allowing operation of the winch. The truck itself, other than the gears, appears to be all original and in very good condition including the pulley hook assembly at the rear of the boom. Truck also maintains what appears to be its original cord pull string attached to the front axles. Enameled in black with a deep red chassis and a slightly brighter red body. Paint is good to very good with oxidation spots most noticeable to cab and fender area. Overall a nice clean example. SIZE: 28"" l. CONDITION: Some alligatoring to paint, particularly on rear step. 1-13990

Lot 3387

THREE BUDDY L MODEL T FLIVVERS. The first vehicle depicting a rag top coupe. The second vehicle depicting a hard top coupe. The third vehicle is a soft top pick up truck with open rear bed. All 3 vehicles are in very fine original finish and retain remnant to partial labels to underside and featuring the typical spoked wheels. The pick up truck rear axle has broken loose and needs to be reattached to under carriage. SIZE: Varies 11 to 12"" in length. CONDITION: Overall as described above these are nice solid vehicles with some typical wear. Pick up truck has front wheels slightly bent in and in need of some minor straightening to frame. 1-13914

Lot 3388

BUDDY L TANK TRUCK. The classic 1920s Buddy L tank truck for the most part in very fine original condition except the tank itself which appears to have been restored and painted in a black with new decals applied. The cab and undercarriage are in exceptional condition and one wonders why the tank needed restoration or perhaps it was just missing? Some minimal wear and scratching to cab roof, but overall very good plus. SIZE: 23-1/2"" excluding rear spigot. CONDITION: As described above tank appears to have a new spigot attached at rear. 1-13918

Lot 3389

BUDDY L CEMENT MIXER. Scarce pressed steel construction equipment on cast iron wheels consisting of a large mixing drum in a metal framework holding a boiler and water tank and a crank to raise and lower the intake spout and chute. Retains much or original decals although missing significant amount of paint exhibiting much use. SIZE: 17"" l x 15"" w x 14"" h. CONDITION: As stated above overall fair condition. 1-14223

Lot 3390

BUDDY L BUS. The classic Buddy L bus and perhaps the best of the various buses made by pressed steel companies over the years. This is the most desirable, realistic, and lifelike example. One can just envision these buses traveling down the highway in the 1930s filled with passengers, exiting and entering through the front doors. Dual rear tires, nickel plated front bumper with matching nickel plated headlights further add to the appeal of this toy. Painted in the standard color of olive green with decals and pin striping on the side. Toy retains its original finish with a fair amount of alligatoring to the paint. SIZE: 28"" long. CONDITION: Overall condition is good plus. Paint finish would probably benefit with a good cleaning. 1-13916

Lot 3391

LARGE TURNER DUMP TRUCK. This is the largest of any Turner vehicle produced and perhaps it is quite fair to say that it is massive. Although this pressed steel truck did not utilize pressed steel as heavy as Keystone or Buddy L, it is quite impressive to look at including the extended hood and the C-cab style of the driver`s area. Simplistic and minimal adornments such as radiator cap and simulated headlights add to the charm of this vehicle. A lever on the driver`s side through a scissor mechanism would allow the bed to rise up and dump its load. Formerly owned by Lillian Gottschalk many years ago. There is a certain charm about this truck, somewhat simple when compared to the Buddy L trucks of the same period. SIZE: 30"" l. CONDITION: Overall paint condition is good plus with paint loss to top of engine compartment. Tailgate on bed appears to be an older replacement. However, it is well done and matches the vehicle nicely. 1-13709

Lot 3403

TWO GREYHOUND BUS TOYS. 1) A fabulous large Buddy L pressed steel windup bus in unplayed with condition. We have not carried this toy before! Complex mechanism drives bus forward, bus stops and brake light at rear comes on and front door opens. As steerable bus proceeds forward; door closes and brake light goes off. Blunt nose of bus and coloring remind us of the 1939 World`s Fair bus. 2) Arcade cast iron greyhound bus marked ""Visit the World`s Fair 1939 New York"". Black rubber tires are marked ""Arcade Balloon"". Nickel-plated castings to front and rear of bus. SIZE: Largest is 16-1/2"" l. CONDITION: 1) Decals are very strong. Paint and overall condition is excellent plus and working. Electrics untested. 2) Decals are very strong. Paint is near excellent with only slight chipping to top side. Very clean toy. 1-13728
