A 128-piece set of French metalwares silver cutlery and flatware, mark of Keller Frères, (Gustave Keller), Paris, circa 1920, Mercury export mark first standard for 950/1000 standard silver, comprising 26 table forks, 24 table knives with filled handles and steel blades, 14 tablespoons, 12 vermeil dessert forks, 12 vermeil dessert knives with filled handles and steel blades, 12 vermeil dessert spoons, 12 vermeil fruit knives with filled handles and silver blades, 11 fish forks, 12 fish knives, 12 vermeil egg spoons, 12 vermeil teaspoons and 17 assorted serving implements, contained in a 4 drawer table-top canteen lined in green baize, 11360g (366.5ozt) gross weighable silver (128) Keller was founded by Gustave Keller in 1856, and his collections became well known for their fine quality, winning both gold and silver medals at the Paris World Exhibitions. In 1889, renowned French jeweller Lucien Falize wrote that "Everything stamped Keller is good".Keller's fine quality products attracted customers from all over the world, and they were appointed official supplier to several foreign courts including Spain, Russia, Greece and Romania. The Russian court was a particularly important client. They were also commissioned to produce several important cups and trophies for the Principality of Monaco.Today their products are still sought after by collectors and connoisseurs and this set of cutlery and flatware is a fine example of their quality, workmanship and design skills.
