Philip Madoc signed 10x8 Dads Army colour photo, inscribed dont tell him your name Pike. Philip Madoc born Philip Arvon Jones; 5 July 1934 5 March 2012 was a Welsh actor. He performed many stages, television, radio and film roles, and was recognised for having a rich, sonorous voice and often playing villains and officers. On television, he starred as David Lloyd George in The Life and Times of David Lloyd George 1981 and DCI Noel Bain in the detective series A Mind to Kill 1994 2002. His guest roles included multiple appearances in the cult series The Avengers 1962 68 and Doctor Who 1968 1979, as well as playing the U boat captain in the Dad's Army episode The Deadly Attachment 1973. Reginald John 'Reg' Williams (York 1928-1992): Untitled, abstract mixed media with pigmented resin and fibreglass unsigned 62cm x 75cm Notes: Reg Williams was a member of the 'York Four' along with fellow artists Russell Platt (see lots 385 and 386) and John Langton, and studio potter David Lloyd Jones. This work was probably produced in the 1950s, when Williams pioneered this method of working with resin and fibreglass, which he also used to produce stained-glass effect windows such as those in St Michael's Church, Wombwell. Born in Birmingham, Reg studied at the Royal College of Art, where he was made a Royal Scholar in 1955, and graduated in 1957. He was a Senior Lecturer at the York School of Art 1957-1986, during which time he was a founder member of the York Four in 1963. His work is in the permanent collection of York Art Gallery, and commissions by him can be found at St Michael & All Angels Church, Wombwell, and The Retreat, York. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Austen Hayes Gallery, York, the New Contemporaries, and more. His daughter Sarah is also an established artist. David Lloyd-Jones (1928-1994), a large vase blue glaze wine ewer, with brown swirl to the front, single handle, impressed potter's seal, height 29 cm. Lloyd-Jones studied at Guildford School of Art under Helen Pincombe (1951-1952). He began making pots himself at the age of thirty four (1962) and built his own workshop and kiln in Fulford, York, where he worked alone, virtually teaching himself to make a full range of stoneware and porcelain.
