A French Palais Royale tortoise shell and ivory strung musical necessaire of squat sarcophagus form, the hinged cavetto moulded lid opening to reveal a mirror to underside protected with a charming removable silk pad printed with the dedication "Remove this, my lovely little Charlotte and you will see an interesting picture", the base with fitted buff velvet tray containing some original sewing tools including mother of pearl scissors with stylised dolphin handles, mother of pearl rectangular needle case, gold thimble, two reels, stiletto (damaged) and three star form silk winders, the tray with storage compartment and two air musical movement beneath with stop/start buttons to front of box, on four turned ivory feet, 6½ x 4½in. (16.5 x 11.5cm.), 3in. (7.5cm.) high. See Illustration
A French Palais Royal burr wood musical sewing box circa 1840, probably stained burr yew, of squat sarcophagus form, the serpentine lid decorated with four gilt metal fern spandrels, the arched gilt metal handle with reeded and trefoil decoration lifting to reveal a fitted tray comprising a delightful array of sympathetically replaced sewing accoutrements comprising; glass scent bottle, gilt metal scissors, 9ct gold thimble, mother of pearl needle case, brass stiletto and bodkin, mother of pearl spool design pin-cushion, ivory and pique work narrow spool and five mother of pearl snow flake winders, gilt movement to compartment beneath, raised on four half bun feet, 7¾ x 5½in. (19.75 x 14cm.), 3½in. (9cm.) high, musical movement requires attention. See Illustration

An Edwardian sewing box of rectangular box form, morocco over card, the four exterior surfaces decorated with paste downs of typical Edwardian sccenes - a courting couple, bow fronted window shop frontage, a gentleman caller, dusk scene of migrating ducks - the silk upholstered lid when lifted allows four silk lined panels to fall, each panel holding various gauge Abe Morrall needles, in turn allowing four smaller silk lined panels to fall at a forty five degree angle to larger panels, each section holding packets of darners, centralised rectangular column to centre containing thimble, 4½in. (11.5cm.) high, 3 x 3in. (7.5 x 7.5cm.) square, in fine condition, complete and unused.
A French inlaid satinwood and partridge wood musical necessaire mid-19th century, modelled as a grand piano, the gilt movement stamped `FIC`, the lid with inlaid boxwood and ebony keyboard framed by partridge wood marquetry and inset domed oval porcelain plaque depicting a lute playing gentleman serenading a seated lady within a partridge wood mirror form border, the sides with conforming partridge wood foliate inlay, the interior with mirror to inside of lid and ivory silk lining, the pink velvet fitted tray and movement cover with floral and foliate silver metallic needle work, the silver mounted fitted accessories including scissors, cut glass scent bottle, stiletto, needle case and thimble (replaced), plus gilt and mother of pearl wax reel, raised on five turned ebony tapering legs, one replaced, 7¼ x 12in.
