1950 Bentley Mk. VI 4¼ litre Standard Steel Sports Saloon Transmission: manualMileage:63069B285GT was delivered in June 1950 to Consul-General Axel Johnson in Sweden straight from the factory and registered in Sweden as EJP-670. In 2007 it was acquired by a Mr. Gavel who made extensive modifications, including removing the original engine and fitting a B60 which was modified to accept a supercharger (photos on file). It was used for long distance touring fitted with an innovative roof rack - now removed as well as an overdrive. The car was also raced and so appeared in the Ray Roberts book 'Special Bentleys and Bentley Specials'. Towards the end of his ownership, Mr Gavel refitted the original engine (by then refurbished) to the car. B285GT was subsequently imported to the UK on the 28th June 2013. This example is presented with new East of England cloth headlining and on new, slightly oversized, tyres (205/80/16) which give a more comfortable ride. All wheels sport chrome and black painted discs in good order with additional spats available and included in this lot. The paintwork, overall, is in good condition although the wheel arches now show light signs of bubbling and corrosion commensurate with its age although nothing needing immediate attention. Both sills appear in good order as does the front and rear bumpers although one rear overrider shows damage. Both headlights uprated to halogen show good chrome and good parabolic reflectors. The with a re-chromed radiator and base-mounted badging near the centre spotlight.Whilst in Sweden, the nearside front wing had a side mounted spare wheel, this wing and bespoke wheel cover is included in the lot. The engine bay shows genuine care lavished upon it. The crankshaft damper has been rebuilt and the vehicle is fitted with a full flow oil filter, a new coil and the original torch still present. Both the engine and engine oil are clean and, we are informed, the oil is changed regularly. The interior has been re-carpeted and edged in leather throughout, including the boot. The door-cappings, dashboard and dash-top walnut veneers all appear to have been renewed and show in good order. The rear seating and all door cards have been recovered and all seating is firm and complete although the front seats do sport aftermarket leather covers. The blind is fully operational as are the Smith dials in the dashboard including the recently rebuilt clock. Inertia reel seat belts have been fitted as well as an additional tachometer plus a discreet panel under the dashboard which includes a USB port, hazard warning lights, overdrive and screen wash. The car is fitted with a towing eye to the front and a discrete tow bar and removable tow hookAdditionally, there is an aftermarket two-speed heater to assist this subtly modernised Bentley, although the original, fully working, unit is still fitted underneath the passenger seat alongside a battery isolator. It is reported to drive well, complete with overdrive, and the modifications certainly point towards and extremely usable example. It is supplied with the original owner's handbook and a complete workshop manual. It is also supplied with a trunk in need of some work and fine leather straps to secure this to the boot lid when dropped down. The car is only for sale due to the owner reducing his collection and will have been driven 100 miles to the auction.

A proper sporting classic, thoughtfully prepared and looking, every inch, the sixties racer.Jaguar's seminal Mk2 sports saloon in the ultimate 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive configurationWearing Coombs-style metal spats, black wire wheels with chrome spinners, and leather bonnet straps front and rear, there is a real appearance of a period racing saloon Real kerb appeal backed up by a strong engine, a full stainless-steel exhaust, and a solid underside New carpets, belts and renewed seatsA usable fun classic car designed to be jumped in, driven, and enjoyedLaunched in October 1959, the Jaguar Mk2 offered a noticeably improved driving experience over its predecessor courtesy of revised front suspension geometry, widened rear track, and four-wheel disc brakes. It was also better looking and, fittingly, the Mk2 was voted 'Car of the Year' in 1959 and would form the mainstay of Jaguar's saloon car production until 1967. One of the most readily recognised cars of the 1960s, thanks in part to countless appearances in films and on television, Jaguar's seminal Mk2 saloon set the standard for the class throughout its entire production life and today remains highly prized by enthusiasts. With the advent of the Mk2, the 3.8-litre version of Jaguar's XK twin-cam six became available for the first time in the company's medium-sized saloon. In 3.8-litre, manual/overdrive configuration with 220bhp on-tap and a whopping 240lb/ft of torque available at a lowly 3,000rpm, it was a genuine 125 mph car capable of reaching 60mph in 8.5 seconds, outstanding figures for a saloon of its size and making it the fastest saloon in the world at the time. The car presented here a 1960 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-litre manual/overdrive example finished in fetching Indigo Blue. On offer from a small private collection of cars and used by our vendor on trips to Goodwood and Bicester Heritage, where it always turns heads, he describes it as “a fun usable classic designed to be jumped in, driven and enjoyed " and as having a ‘lovely, sweet 3.8 engine’ with no drips or leaks, fitted with small alloy trumpets, it is connected to a later 4-speed overdrive gearbox, this Mk2 both goes extremely well whilst looking a bit different from the more traditional examples out there.Wearing Coombs-style metal spats, black wire wheels with chrome spinners, and leather bonnet straps front and rear, there is a real appearance of a period racing saloon and this is finished off with a badge-bar adorned with genuine period badges, Speedwell wing mirrors, yellow Lucas lens covers, and Dunlop fog light covers. The bumpers have had the overriders removed and have been painted, period roundels and stickers adorn the bodywork and the whole effect is enhanced by a full stainless Falcon sports exhaust. The bodywork is described as ‘straight, with a few minor marks’ and, reassuringly, the underside appears completely solid.Between the photos attached being taken and the auction date, our vendor has treated the car to a renewal of its original Mk2 leather seats, the rears with picnic tables, the fronts now with period lap-belts, whilst a Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel, a new (but period-style) fire extinguisher in a leather holder and a new set of carpets have been added (photos of which will follow soon). One glance at 'KSH 687' and you are instantly reminded of those close range, black and white images of Grand Prix drivers sliding their Mk2 Jaguars around Silverstone in the early 1960s. It's a great colour, correctly presented and just looks right. It's not a competition car or a heavily modified, intractable 'fast-road' saloon but a straightforward, owner-friendly, road-going Mk2 and, if today's images were in black and white, it could well be from 1961 when Mk2s in the hands of Moss, Hawthorn, Salvadori and Hill were dominant in British saloon car racing. A usable fun classic car designed to be jumped in, driven, and enjoyed and, with its nostalgic looks, would be welcome anywhere. 1967 Jaguar MKII 3.4-Litre Saloon ProjectRegistration no. MYD 610EChassis no. 171505Engine no. KJ10902-8Odometer reading: TBCMOT: Exempt *Desirable manual/overdrive transmission*Off the road for many years*Restoration started*Offered for completionOne of the most readily recognised cars of the 1960s, thanks in part to countless appearances in films and on television, Jaguar's seminal Mark 2 saloon set the standard for the class throughout its entire production life and today remains highly prized by enthusiasts. A progressive development of the Mark 1, Jaguar's first unitary-construction saloon, the Mark 2 made its debut in October 1959. Slimmer windscreen pillars and deeper side windows greatly enlarged the Mark 2's glass area, while the deletion of its predecessor's full-sized rear wheel spats allowed the rear track to be widened, a move which increased roll resistance and stability. Otherwise, running gear remained much the same as before, with independent front suspension by wishbones and coil springs, a leaf-sprung live rear axle and Dunlop servo-assisted disc brakes (optional at first on the Mark 1 but standard from November 1957) on all four wheels. A redesigned dashboard with speedometer and rev-counter ahead of the driver and the minor gauges grouped in the centre established Jaguar's layout for years to come. Transmission options were either a four-speed manual (overdrive optional) or Borg-Warner automatic gearbox, an improved all-synchromesh version of the former being specified from 1965.This example of Jaguar's ever-popular Mark 2 was purchased by the lady vendor's husband circa 2005, having been in the preceding owner's possession since 1977 and garaged unused for 17 years. Restoration was started but due to the owner's ill health remains unfinished. Offered in need of further restoration, the car comes with an old-style logbook and is sold strictly as viewed.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 22/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1968 Jaguar 240 Transmission: manualMileage:81226In September 1967 the Jaguar Mk. II was re-labelled as the 240 and 340 compact saloons. They were interim models to fill the gap until the introduction of the XJ6 in September 1968. The 340 was discontinued on the introduction of the XJ6 but the 240 continued as a budget priced model until April 1969; its price of £1,364 was only £20 more than the first 2.4 in 1956. The 240 now had a straight-port cylinder head with twin HS6 SU carburettors and a new inlet manifold. To keep costs down, Jaguar replaced the leather with Ambla, a simulated leather material and tufted carpet was used on the floor. Other changes included the replacement of the front fog lamps with circular vents and optional fog lamps for the UK market. The sales price was reduced to compete with the Rover 2000 TC. For the first time, the 2.4 litre model could exceed 100 mph, resulting in a slight sales resurgence.Manufactured on 30th August 1968 and supplied by Glovers of Ripon to W.R.M. Michel in Harrogate, this Jaguar was originally registered on 1st October 1968. Still in its original colour combination of Dark Blue exterior with Dark Blue Ambla interior, this is a good honest example of one of Browns Lane finest designs. Owned by the current vendor since 2006, he has lovingly kept the car in a dehumidified garage and has used her only sparingly. Starting immediately when requested, the six-cylinder XK engine runs well and with good oil pressure. This is mated to a manual gearbox with overdrive. Sitting proudly on wire wheels and fitted with the sporty Coombes rear spats, we are advised this matching numbers 240 drives well with no known faults. Supplied with a UK V5C registration document, this example would benefit from some light re-commissioning and perhaps some more regular use than she has had of late.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

1964 Jaguar Mark 2 3.4-Litre Sports SaloonRegistration no. KDK 696Chassis no. 165944Odometer reading: 76,400MOT: Exempt*An older restoration*Recent professional engine rebuild*Numerous sensible upgradesTo view a video of this lot please click hereFootnotes:Its accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows that this overdrive-equipped Mark 2 was originally finished in Silver Blue with dark blue leather interior. The car was supplied new via Somerset Motors and first owned by a Mrs H Gibson. Between 2003 and 2015 the Jaguar was treated to a full restoration, during which the exterior colour was changed to the current British Racing Green and the interior re-trimmed in cream hide with matching carpets (see photographs on file). Other noteworthy features include power assisted steering; Coombs spats; wire wheels (including spare); louvred bonnet; S-Type front brakes; up-rated suspension; ribbed cam covers; and Magna-Spark electronic ignition. The current vendor acquired the Mark 2 at a UK auction in 2016, since when the engine has been professionally rebuilt. Carried out by the late Colin Groome of Newton Abbot, Devon, the rebuild included a re-bore; new pistons; and conversion to accept unleaded fuel, while the clutch was replaced at the same time. Other recent works include installing rear seat belts; replacing several brake lines; and fitting a set of new tyres in 2020 (fewer than 1,000 miles ago). Sensibly up-rated to cope with today's demanding traffic conditions, this well cared for Jaguar Mark 2 comes with a comprehensive history file dating back to 2001 and evidencing regular maintenance.Vendor Score Total: 94/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 'Maxie': an Austrian ventriloquist's dummy, circa 1935, painted wood and papier-mache male figure, wearing full evening dress, his leather shoes with grey spats, the brown wig with centre parting, glass eyes with blue irises, the mechanism operating mouth, eyebrows and eyelids independently, 95cm high (nose damaged), with two owner/performer's diaries spanning 1935 to 1956, and a small selection of conjuring trick accessories.Footnote: Footnote: 'Maxi' was owned by Harold 'Romy' Romberg who was a keen amateur ventriloquist, performing to small audiences, invited guests and family gatherings between 1935 and the 1950s. Fleeing the Nazi regime in 1939, Romberg joined the British forces where he remained during the war, performing with Maxie regularly at regimental functions. Shortly after the war, Romberg returned to Germany with the Intelligence Corps where he and Maxie continued to perform. Romberg was evidently fascinated by the ventriloquist's art, filling his diaries with cuttings, photographs and letters gathered over the years. One such letter from Ealing Studios in 1947 replies to Romberg's enquiry as to the fate of 'Hugo', the dummy featured in the 1947 horror film 'Dead of Night'.Condition report: Head: Nose dented, cracked and compressed with associated surface hairlines around.   Wear and chips to paintwork in places.  Wig appears fair.  Mechanicals working okay but right eyelid is a little sticky.Body and hands: Fair to good with some surface paint chipping to hands and evidence of re-painting.Costume: Fair to reasonable condition with some small moth holes but no obvious splits or tares.  Seams and stitching good. Colour fair to good.  Shoe spats show some moth damage.  Shoe leather has some surface wear.PLEASE REFER TO IMAGES.
