1984 MG Metro Turbo Transmission: manualMileage:7376The MG Metro was introduced in October 1982 some six months after the launch of the MG Metro 1300. The MG Metro Turbo was a leader for its day with the Lotus Engineering assisted design for the very comprehensive changes that were done to the engine which was very capable of handling the modest 93 bhp the standard engine was quoted at, although many actually delivered closer to 100 in standard unmodified form. Later tuned race cars would push that power to 200bhp, a massive power level for that period and even more so for a 1300cc engine. Other positive features included powerful servo assisted brakes using four-pot calipers and ventilated discs up front. The Turbo also came with a bodykit that provided a front spoiler and four-wheel spats to go with the MG Metro rear spoiler and this together with the use of Turbo only specific larger 13" alloy wheels and low profile tyres the individual look was enhanced considerably. One of the pocket rockets of its day, only 22,000 were made and survivors very rarely come to market now.First registered on 21st March 1984, the MG Metro Turbo offered here is nothing short of incredible. The car is completely original having been lovingly cared for by its first owner for the first 30 years of its life. Mr. Lamont purchased the car new from Lex Mead of Bexleyheath, Kent for the sum of £5,500. The car was used lightly for the first five years when a mere 6,532 miles were put on it. The car was then taken off the road by Mr. Lamont and stored in the garage at his new home until July 1999 when it was displayed at the Guildford MG show. Whilst stored the car had been regularly started to maintain it. Winning its class in concours events in both 2001 and 2002, Mr. Lamont felt he had made his point that his car was truly exceptional. In the years since it has covered few miles, but always maintained in perfect running order. Amazingly, all the documentation remains with the car from the original V5 logbook, to its original purchase invoice book pack and manuals. Along with the prizes won there are many receipts and relevant period publications. The car is so original that other than a light refurbishment to the seat covers in 2012 and a total brake overhaul in 2013, the car is totally original. It sits on a set of original wheels with modern tyres, but the original wheels that came with the car from new and their original tyres are also included. Having resided since 2019 as part of a large collection, the vendor has decided to move the car on to free up both space and funds for a new project. He reports the car to run and drive very well and is a time warp example, impossible to replicate.Supplied with a V5C registration document, original invoice, book pack, maintenance and service handbooks, many MoT test certificates, invoices, photo CD and publications. This presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a three owner, full history from new, perfect condition example.

A 1922 pattern, Inter War period, Seaforth Highlanders tunic, kilt, sporran, spats, socks, glengarry, and tam o’ shanter.A fantastic original set, as worn by 2810148 L/Cpl Sidney Hunt.Comprising of: the 1922 pattern tunic, with brass Seaforth Highlanders buttons, brass shoulder titles, lance stripe to each arm, a good conduct stripe to the lower left sleeve, a Lewis Gunner badged to the right sleeve, and braided lanyard to the left shoulder. The tunic also features the traditional cut away skirt to the front to allow the wearing of the dress sporran. The set is complete with its original leather, brass, and horsehair sporran, with an applied brass badge for the Seaforth Highlanders applied to the front.Plus, a Seaforth Highlanders kilt with leather securing straps (this is named to a different soldier and likely reissued to L/Cpl Hunt), a woollen glengarry cap with diced band, red pom-pom, silk rosette with white applied metal badge, leather sweatband, and silk tails.Additionally there are a pair of woollen socks, spats, sock ties, and a Tam O’ Shanter (the latter being unbadged).Notes: the set was inherited by the niece of Sydney Hunt and has been in storage for many years. To the best of our knowledge, all the individual elements that make up the set have been together since the interwar eraThe tunic has the remnants of a paper label to the inside, but what remains is unreadable. There is a government War Department ink stamped code to the inside of the tunic, which is 62 over WD and broad arrow, with a letter P underneath. The glengarry cap is more akin to the WW1 issued caps - it calfskin leather band is more indicative of a WW1 or interwar issued piece.According to published records, there is a TS Hunt of the 1st battalion Seaforth Highlanders with the same 2810148 service number listed under other ranks discharged 1921-1939.The post WW1 numbering system for soldiers, starting in 1920, gives a range from 2809001-2865000 for this regiment, and L/Cpl Hunt’s number is only 1147 from the start of this range, which suggests his service reckons from the early 1920’s.Condition: varies across pieces. The tunic is in excellent condition, with only minimal wear and apparently no moth damage. The kilt is similar to the tunic, in good order with only minimal wear. The leather securing straps on the kilt are supple and work as they should. The glengarry has moderate service wear to the main body of the cap - there are some pulls to the fabric on the diced band, plus some minor moth tracking and nibbles. The silk tails have perished and are fraying in places. The sporran is good, with all elements being in good condition and showing only normal service wear. The spats show staining and service wear, notably to the inside. The sock are good, with minimal soiling. The Tam o’ shanter has a small moth hole to the crown and a tear to the lining.

1971 Triumph Herald 13/60 1300cc Burlington kit car Kit car in the style of the 1930s Registration: DTF 122J Chassis: GE75667DL Odometer: 65577 Transmission:  Manual MOT: Exempt No Reserve . Supplied with tonneau cover . Matching Firestone tyres . Tax and MOT exempt Outside  The aluminium bodywork is finished in black paint and a vinyl covering which on the whole presents in reasonable condition with the exception of some surface rust on the wheel spats and some aluminium corrosion on the engine cover panels. The car sits on painted steel wire wheels, which would benefit from a blast and paint, with matching Firestone tyres all around including the rear mounted spare.  Inside  Two tone brown vinyl interior is in good condition as are the carpets and wooden rimmed steering wheel. There is also a tonneau cover which is the cars only form of protection from the weather.   Mechanicals This home built kit car is based on a Triumph herald donor which includes the visible independent front suspension, twin SU carbereted 1300cc 4 cylinder engine, 4 speed gearbox and disc brakes to the front wheels. The engine runs well although the starter motor seems a bit lazy so may benefit from a refresh although once running runs well and drives as can be expected.  History  The only history we have for the car is it’s old MOT's dating back to July 11th 2000 when the mileage was 55,735.   Our Opinion  This could be the bargain of the sale, offered without reserve, based on a car that spares are readily available, it's a great budget way into some fun classic motoring.

Lot 129

1957 Bentley S1 Continental Sports Saloon Coachwork by H J Mulliner Registration no. 722 UYL Chassis no. BC41BG Engine no. BC40B•Unsurpassed style and luxury•One of 431 S1 Continentals•Known ownership history•Recent professional engine rebuild, repaint, and interior re-trim•Excellent history file (inspection recommended)Footnotes:Bentley's magnificent Continental sports saloon has been synonymous with effortless high speed cruising in the grand manner since its introduction on the R-Type chassis in 1952. Unlike the ordinary, factory-bodied, 'standard steel' R-Type, the Continental was bodied in the traditional manner and first appeared with what many enthusiasts consider to be the model's definitive style of coachwork - the lightweight, wind tunnel-developed fastback of H J Mulliner. The Continental's performance figures would have been considered excellent for an out-and-out sports car, but for a full four/five seater saloon they were exceptional: a top speed of 120mph, 100mph achievable in third gear, 50mph reached in a little over 9 seconds and effortless cruising at the 'ton'. Built for export only at first, the Continental was, once delivery charges and local taxes had been paid, almost certainly the most expensive car in the world, as well as the fastest capable of carrying four adults and their luggage. 'The Bentley is a modern magic carpet which annihilates great distances and delivers the occupants well-nigh as fresh as when they started,' concluded Autocar. With the arrival of the final generation of six-cylinder cars - the all-new Silver Cloud and Bentley S-Type - the Continental lost some of its individuality but none of its exclusivity. Eulogising about the new S-Series cars, introduced in April 1955, The Autocar wrote, 'the latest Bentley model offers a degree of safety, comfort and performance that is beyond the experience and perhaps even the imagination of the majority of the world's motorists'. Later, in October that same year, the Bentley Continental became available on the 'S' chassis. 'It brings Bentley back to the forefront of the world's fastest cars,' Autocar remarked of the H J Mulliner-styled fastback which, arguably, was the quickest four/five-seater saloon of its day. The S-Type's new box-section chassis incorporated improved brakes and suspension and an enlarged (to 4,887cc) and more powerful version of the existing inlet-over-exhaust six-cylinder engine, which for the first time was identical in specification in its Rolls and Bentley forms. The Continental version came with shorter radiator and higher gearing and, for a time at least, could be ordered with right-hand change, manual transmission. As had been the case with the original R-Type, the new S-Type Continental was only ever available as a coachbuilt car, the designs produced by independent coachbuilders for the S1 Continental chassis being among era's the most stylish, although – arguably – none ever improved on H J Mulliner's sublime original. This 'modern magic carpet' was supplied new via Jack Barclay's Mayfair showroom and comes with a most comprehensive history folder containing the original sales contract, numerous service records, internal memorandums, and correspondence from the car's earliest days. The folder also contains Bentley and H J Mulliner build sheets; owners' correspondence; bills from various specialists; a quantity of expired MoTs; and V5C documents to bring the story up to date. The first owner, one J H Rawlings of the Automatic Coil Winding Co Ltd, exchanged his R-Type Continental plus a substantial amount of money for this more modern Continental, a model that would turn out to be far rarer than its illustrious forebear. Jack Barclay ended up supplying 'BC41BG' to its first three owners and they appear to have serviced it throughout this period. The copy chassis card lists a further four owners up to 1965, while a hand-written document lists a further six up to 2011. There have been three owners since, including the current vendor, who purchased the Continental from Graeme Hunt Ltd in early 2020. Works carried out while with recent custodians include a suspension overhaul and engine rebuild by local specialists in Essex, plus a strip to bare metal, fabrication of new rear wheel spats, repaint, and a complete re-trim of the interior and boot by Graeme Hunt Ltd (photographs on file).Without doubt one of the nicest examples currently available, this beautiful S1 Continental 'fastback' is sure to command attention wherever it goes and delight the fortunate next owner. 1960 Jaguar Mk.II Saloon Transmission: manualMileage:71633The Jaguar Mk. II was a medium size saloon built from 1959 to 1967 as a successor to the 2.4 and 3.4 Mk. I models. The Mk. II was handsome, powerful and a good handling saloon which was offered with a choice of three six-cylinder, twin cam engines; 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre. After the appreciation of the MK. I, Jaguar's successor was well received, making a good car even better.  Similar in appearance, but with a bigger glass area, the Mk. II boasted a wider track to improve road holding, together with minor front suspension changes to reduce body roll, and the new Dunlop disc brakes fitted all-round rather than drum brakes. The 210bhp 3.4 litre engine variant proved to be the most popular, offering the best compromise between performance and economy.  Naturally, the performance was excellent, therefore the Mk. II 3.8 litre has enjoyed great success on the track and can still be a very competitive historic race car. This 1960 Jaguar Mk. II 3.8 litre was purchased by the current owner in 1995 as a restoration project. After many months of stripping down then removing all the paint and filler, he set about rebuilding the body shell. The vendor then carried out any repairs as necessary and fitted four new original Jaguar doors and metal rear wheel spats. The original colour was changed from grey to Old English White, the reassembly was started and mechanicals refitted. In the late 1990s work stopped and it went into storage, then twelve years ago it was taken to well-known classic Jaguar specialists based in Maidenhead who finished the assembly. They refitted the new red leather interior, adding to all the re-chromed bumpers and window frames etc. When new the car was supplied with an automatic gearbox which at some point has been replaced with a manual gearbox with overdrive, which was overhauled in 2013. Around the same time the engine was taken out again and completely rebuilt. When it was removed it was discovered that the 3.8 engine had been replaced with a 3.4 litre unit from a later Jaguar S-Type. The car has been fitted with electric power steering replacing the original fluid system. In 2020 the rear axle was removed and completely rebuilt, and at the same time it was fitted with new chrome wire wheels and tyres. This Jaguar Mk. II is supplied with a V5 registration document and a very large file containing information, invoices and some photographs of the restoration. This is a very good reliable example, perfect for historic rallies, Bicester Scrambles or just touring.

•CONRAD HEIGHTON LEIGH (1883-1958) CHARGE OF SCOTS GREYS AND HIGHLANDERS AT ST. QUENTIN Signed, inscribed with title on the stretcher, oil on canvas 49.5 x 59.5cm. * This dramatic composition derives much of its content from Richard Caton Woodville's illustration published in H W Wilson's `The Great War` (1916). The subject is said to depict a stirrup-charge in August 1914 but there is liberal use of artistic licence: the soldiers are shown wearing spats and hose (reserved solely for parade order); the grey horses, judged to be too distinctive, had all been dyed chestnut; and no running man could keep abreast of a galloping horse ++ Some grazes and bruises to the canvas
