LUIS FEITO (Madrid, 1929- 2021).Untitled.Silkscreen, copy P.A.Signed and justified by hand.Measurements: 76 x 56 cm.Born and educated in Madrid, he was one of the founding members of the group El Paso. In 1954 he had his first individual exhibition, with non-figurative works, at the Buchholz gallery in Madrid. From then on Feito exhibited regularly in the most important cities in the world, such as Paris, Milan, New York, Helsinki, Tokyo and Rome. Appointed professor at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in 1954, two years later he left teaching and went to Paris on a scholarship to study the avant-garde movements in force. During this period he was influenced by automatism and matter painting. In 1962 he became a founding member of the El Paso group, with which he had lost contact during his years in Paris. His first works were figurative painting, followed by a phase in which he experimented with cubism and finally moved fully into abstraction. At first he only used black, ochre and white colours, but when he discovered the potential of light he began to use more vivid colours and smooth planes. He evolved until he used red as a counterpoint in his compositions (from 1962) and, in general, more intense colours. In his abstract phase, which includes the 1970s, Feito showed a clear tendency towards simplification, with the circle predominating in his compositions as a geometric form. Possibly, the influence of Japanese art can be seen in his preference for large bands of black. Most of his works are untitled and can therefore be recognised by a number assigned to them. Among his awards is his appointment as an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters of France in 1985. In 1998 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Fine Arts in Madrid, and was made a Full Member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 2000 he was awarded the Prize of the Spanish Association of Art Critics at the Estampa Salon, in 2002 the AECA Grand Prize for the best international artist at ARCO, in 2003 the prize for the most important artist at the Osaka Art Fair (Japan), in 2004 the Prize for the Culture of Plastic Arts of the Community of Madrid, in 2005 the Francisco Tomás Prieto Prize of the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre, and in 2008 the Jorge Alió Foundation Prize and the Grand Prize for Spanish Contemporary Art CESMAI. Luis Feito is represented in the most important museums all over the world, including the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Guggenheim, the MoMA and the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, the Museums of Modern Art in Tokyo, Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Montreal, the Lissone in Italy, etc.
MANUEL HERNÁNDEZ MOMPÓ (Valencia, 1927 - Madrid, 1992)Untitled.Silkscreen, copy H.C.Signed and justified by hand.Slight rust stains in the margins and a small tear.Measurements: 56 x 75 cm.The son of a painting teacher, Hernández Mompó alternated his basic and high school studies with classes at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades in Valencia, where he entered in 1943. In 1948 he obtained a grant to paint in Granada, at the Residence for Painters, and three years later a new grant enabled him to travel to Paris. In the French capital he came into contact with the circles of informalist painters, whose influence would mark his later work, leaving behind the landscapes and portraits that had dominated his oeuvre until then. Between 1954 and 1955 he spent a long period in Rome, on a grant from the Department of Culture of the Ministry of National Education to study at the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in the Italian capital. In 1954 he took part in the Viareggio International Exhibition, where he was awarded the Italian Navigation Prize. He left Italy and settled in Amsterdam, where he again frequented the informalist cenacles. In 1957 he returned to Spain and settled in Aravaca (Madrid). The following year he was awarded a grant from the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, and won the Grand National Painting Prize and a first medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. During the sixties and seventies he alternated his residence between Madrid, Ibiza, and in 1973 he spent a year in California. On his return to Spain he settled in Mallorca. Hernández Mompó exhibited in the main capitals of Europe and the United States, and took part in national and international exhibitions. Among his most outstanding awards was the Unesco Prize received at the 34th Venice Biennale in 1968. In 1984 he was awarded the National Prize for Fine Arts by the Ministry of Culture. His youthful style was soon influenced in a definitive way by abstract expressionism and informalism, although his works never lost reality as a reference point. In his production, Hernández Mompó captures a figurative and poetic imagery, harmoniously mixed with abstract elements and rich superimposition effects. Hernández Mompó is represented at the IVAM in Valencia, the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía, the Museo de Arte Abstracto in Cuenca, the British Museum in London, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Chase Manhattan Bank Collection in New York and the Winterthur Museum in Switzerland, among many others.

"Ben", BEN VAUTIER (Naples, 1935)."Life is competition", 1992, from the Olympic Centennial Suite.Silkscreen on 270 gsm Vélin d'Arches paper, copy 138/250.Signed and justified by hand.Size: 63 x 90 cm.Benjamin Vautier has been, as well as a visual artist, a public agitator and art critic, interested in social vindication and multiculturalism. For him, all art must mean a shock, produce an intense emotion or reaction, and be novel. Although he was born in Naples, he spent his childhood in Naples, Turkey, Egypt, Greece and Italy. In 1949 he moved to Nice, where he spent most of his career. His contact in Nice with artists such as Fontan, Malaval, Klein and Arman was fundamental in shaping his style. In the 1960s he travelled to New York where he took part in the actions of the Fluxus group. His work would also become impregnated with conceptualism and minimalism, essential in his conception of art, which for him is not a purpose but a vehicle, a form of communication. The Olympic Suite is made up of 50 lithographs and serigraphs chosen to represent various contemporary artistic trends. It was published to commemorate the first centenary of modern Olympism. The artists chosen are defined by diverse movements and pictorial trends, from the conceptualism and minimalism of "Ben" Vautier, the lyrical abstraction of Yasse Tabuchi, the painting of Oleg Tselkov who concentrates on the human figure, intensely expressive and treated with forceful forms and intense colours that seek to reflect the conflicts and violence of his time, and finally the work of André Arabis, clearly abstract and geometric.
JOSÉ ROYO (Valencia, 1945)."Woman with a pitcher".Oil on canvas.Signed in the lower right corner.Measurements: 100 x 81 cm; 129 x 110 cm (frame).A precocious painter, José Royo began his drawing studies when he was only seven years old. After studying with the best masters of his city, he entered the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, and finally completed his studies travelling around the great museums of the world, immersing himself especially in Goya, Velázquez and the impressionist masters. These influences marked his pictorial development to the point of becoming a master of post-impressionism himself, heir to Renoir, Sorolla, Monet and Bonnard. The decisive change in his life came when the painter and his family decided to move to the countryside; in a small village near Valencia, Royo built the house that would bring light and colour to his work, which would be an exact replica of his iconography and vice versa, a house full of geraniums and orange trees where the light is precious at every moment of the day, in a different corner. However, the essence of the Mediterranean culture that this artist carries within him demanded, more and more insistently, to paint the sea. Royo then found his second paradise in Mallorca, in the Salmunia cove, where he has moved every summer to paint since the seventies. At the same time, his career became increasingly successful, first in Spain and soon throughout Europe. The Mediterranean charm modelled by Royo's virtuosity also seduced the Japanese and then the South American market, although it was above all his success in the United States that consolidated this artist as one of the key figures of our time. On the other hand, Royo's eagerness to investigate has led him to explore other fields such as sculpture and silkscreen printing, always accompanied by public recognition. He has also excelled as a portrait painter, portraying the presidents and High Magistrates of the Spanish Supreme Court, aristocratic personalities and His Majesty Don Juan Carlos I for the Spanish Embassy in Japan. Royo is currently represented in the Diocesan Museum of Barcelona, among other collections.
NAM JUNE PAIK (Seoul, 1932 - Miami, 2006).Untitled.Silkscreen on 270 gsm Vélin d'Arches paper, copy 229/250.Signed and justified by hand.Size: 63 x 90 cm.Nam June Paik worked throughout his career as a musical composer, but also as a video artist, painter and printmaker. He trained musically at the University of Tokyo, where he also studied Art History. He later travelled to Germany in the mid-1950s to study music theory in Munich, Cologne and Freiburg. He worked in the electronic music research laboratory of Radio Cologne, and participated in the artistic research groups Happening and Fluxus. In this and other lithographs he investigates the graphic possibilities through the serialisation of elements close to the aesthetics of the video game and even the "emoticon".
ANDY WARHOL (Pittsburgh, USA, 1928 - New York, USA, 1987)."Marilyn Monroe", 1967.Silkscreen on paper, copy 7/250.Numbered on the reverse. Hand signed on the reverse.Good condition.Provenance: Private collection, Madrid. Belongs to the property since the 1970s.Measurements: 91.4 x 91.4 cm, 96.5 x 96.5 cm (frame). In 1964, Andy Warhol made a series of five silkscreen prints of Marilyn Monroe, named Shot Sage Blue Marilyn. It belongs to a series of four screenprints (originally five) on 1 metre by 1 metre canvas made in Warhol's studio, The Factory, located on 47th Street in Manhattan, New York. The story behind the peculiar title states that one day Dorothy Podber, a friend of the studio's official photographer, Billy Name, was there when she saw the portraits of Marilyn stacked one against the other. Dorothy then asked Warhol if she could "shoot" them, a word that is also used in English to refer to taking a photograph. Warhol assumed the latter and agreed. To his surprise, Dorothy took a small revolver out of her handbag and shot the silkscreens, which thereafter became known as The Shot Marilyns. The fifth portrait was not in the stack to which Dorothy directed the single bullet fired.Of the five silkscreens originally created, the blue one was bought in 1967 by Peter Brant (a media and film entrepreneur) for $5,000; the red one by Philip Niarchos for $4.1 million; the orange one by Kenneth C. Griffin for an assumed price of over $200 million in 1998; and the turquoise one by Steve Cohen in 2007 for over $80 million. In 1967, Warhol again produced 10 series, with one colour attributed to each and a print run of 250 copies. One of these graphic works is the one that concerns us, the blue series being the most highly valued and quoted at international auctions. At the auction on 9 May 2022, Christie's sold the Blue Marilyn for 170 million dollars, making it the highest-priced 20th century work of art ever sold at public auction.Andy Warhol Andrew Warhola, commonly known as Andy Warhol, was an American visual artist, filmmaker and music producer who played a crucial role in the birth and development of pop art. Considered in his time a guru of modernity, Warhol has been one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He is now represented in the world's most important contemporary art museums, including MoMA, the Metropolitan and Guggenheim in New York, Fukoka in Japan, the Kunstmuseum in Basel, the National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome, MUMOK in Vienna, SMAK in Ghent and the Tate Gallery in London, as well as in the museums that bear his name in Pittsburgh and Medzilaborce (Slovakia).
