A late 18th Century blue velvet gentleman`s dress coat, the front facings of the cuffs, the back pleats, pockets and collar all embroidered in multicoloured silks and applied with sequins and spangles in a design of flowerheads and leaf tendrils, the cuff buttons and accompanying breaches similarly decorated and lined in ivory toned silk, the cuffs with later bobbin lace attachments, together with an associated late 18th Century gentleman`s waistcoat on ivory toned silk, the facings and pockets profusely embroidered with multicoloured silks in a design of undulating and entwined flowers and applied sequins and spangles, silk lined and with glazed cotton back panel with canvas ties, and a single Georgian silver and steel shoe buckle.

The preserved hoof of "Pioneer" winner of the 1846 Grand National, mounted in silver by Edgar Finlay & Hugh Taylor, hallmarked Birmingham, 1888, to form a jar & cover supported on a horse shoe and surmounted by a handle designed as a jockey cap and crossed riding whips, the hoof applied with the lettering PIONEER. Pioneer was a very early winner of the Grand National, triumphing in the 8th running of the race on 8th March 1846. The race attracted a then record field of 22 runners with Pioneer, an unquoted outsider, coming home three lengths to the good under his jockey William Taylor

Royal Interest: George III. A pair of court shoe buckles. paste gems mounted on silver, contained within original box. buckle 7cm wide . Provenance: formerly the property of His Majesty George III and given by him to the Very Rev. the Dean of Bristol, Dr Layard on his appointment as Bishop of Worcester in 1803. It has since past by descent to the present owner. . Note: Dr Layard was private Chaplain to George III and Queen Charlotte.

A rare George III Channel Islands silver shoe buckle maker`s mark PN, struck twice to each side, 18th century, of plain, open oval form, the underside with scratch engraved initials, indistinct, possibly `IAI`, 4in. (10cm.) wide. * This buckle is reputed to have belonged to John Allaire, privateer and Seigneur of Sark.
