(3)Provenance: from an English private collection, Sussex.This service was supplied to William Eden, British Envoy-Extraordinary and Minister-Plenipotentiary to France, who was in Paris in 1787 following negotiation of the Anglo-French Treaty of Navigation and Commerce. Correspondence indicates that the service may have been a gift for George Rose, Secretary to the Treasury in the British Government. Cf. However, the recorded plates from that service do not have the lobing to the rim as seen on this example.

Between 1816 and 1836 she ran a painting school at her workshop and this plaque was executed by one of her pupils.

H. 56 cm.Diese von Limosiner Maleremail-Arbeiten beeinflusste Maltechnik wurde im 19. Jh. auf Porzellan adaptiert, zunächst von Manufakturen wie Sèvres, Worcester und Minton ausgeführt und erstmals 1865 auf Betreiben des Modelleurs Ernst August Leuteritz auf Meissener Porzellanvasen angewandt. Dabei wird der weiße, dünnflüssige Schlicker schichtweise aufgetragen und erhält dadurch einen reliefartigen Charakter. The cost of the service was recorded at 20,772 livres, which equated to approximately twice the annual income of a doctor. Parts of the collection are now in The Metropolitan Museum, accession number 1976.155.69.

The pink ground varies throughout and is slightly patchy in places. There is some wear, slight scratching to enamels and gilding overall.

A pair of Minton turquoise glazed figures of gardeners, circa 1860, modelled with a hat and apron full of flowers, together with a figure similar, the Minton figures with imitation Sèvres marks, 20.5cm highMale figure with a glued break across shoulder and neck, a break to left arm at top of sleeve, a break to left wrist and a break to right hand. Watering can lacking handle. The lady figure in good condition. Figure of child with basket broken out of hands and through left elbow. Small chip to back footrim.

Metal fittings a little corroded. Velvet interior with wear and pressure marks. Lock and locking plate missing, lacking key. One sabot detached but present

A French ormolu and Sèvres style porcelain mantel clock late 19th Century, of Louis XVI design, the striking movement signed 'Hry. Marc à Paris', the circular dial with Roman numerals, the architectural case flanked by two putti and a bust of Diana garlanded with flowers on sedant greyhounds, the shaped plinth on toupie feet, decorated overall with frolicking putti, 40cm high, 34cm wideThe front Sevres-style rectangular panel decorated with putti has been cracked across, very minor wear overall, sold as viewed and not in working order.

Lot 38

A Sèvres style bowl, 19th Century, of cabbage leaf design, the raised leaves edged with gold and painted with panels of flowers and birds on a bleu celeste ground with tooled gilt floral sprigs, 23cm wide, together with a Continental porcelain pierced oval basket, 30cm longSevres style bowl - some misfiring to enamels and gilding, scattered firing faults, blow-outs to enamels and gilding and patchy blue ground colour. The oval basket is in good order, some very minor wear overall.

A pair of Napoleon III calamander pier cabinets, the fronts set with Sèvres style porcelain panels, each with marble top above a single drawer and cupboard door, gilt brass mounts throughout, bears label Lucia Portman, 110cm high, 77.5cm wide, 43cm deepSlight veneer movement and cracking. Key not present. Ceramic plaques all present but frames a little loosened. A few water marks to veneer. Multiple scuffs, scratches and wear. Marble top with a few edge chips underneath. Door movement has caused a few scratches. Some wear and pressure marks to velvet lined interior. Dents to pilasters

A French ormolu mounted Sèvres style porcelain garniture de Cheminee, late 19th Century, of Louis XVI style comprising a mantel clock, the striking movement by Japy Freres, the case of arched architectural form surmounted by an urn on shaped base, inset with panels of figures at a gaming table in a wooded landscape, on giltwood plinth, 47cm high, 37cm wide and a pair of two-handled potpourri vases and covers similar, 34cm highThe Sevres-style porcelain with some wear and losses to the applied 'pearls', rubbing to gilding and enamels, the dial with some wear, the mounts on the vases have been removed, cleaned and replaced and are slightly loose (with receipt for cleaning dated 1997), pendulum is present. Some wear to giltwood stands, some worm holes present to stands, velvet faded and worn, minor wear to ormolu overall, clock is sold as viewed and not in working order.

A French gilt brass mounted kingwood and tulipwood centre table, mid 19th Century, of Louis XV design, with a frieze drawer applied with Sèvres pattern porcelain panels, the cabriole legs applied with female busts and terminating in sabots on castors, 77cm high, 57cm wide, 39cm deepGenerally fair condition with a little veneer cracking and small loss to crossbanding. Metal mounts lifting and brass bound edges detaching. Pop out drawer mechanisms functional. Some oxidisation to metal mouldings. Original ceramic castors.
