The upper end in the form of a double-headed eagle with a trefoil suspension loop above it. The detachable candle arms numbered in sequence. Two sets of eight decorative volutes. A wheellock rifle. Dresden, circa 1590. Octagonal, then round smoothbore barrel in calibre 18 mm with a chiselled chevron pattern. Brass front sight, inset rear sight. Smooth lock plate with engraved fire-gilt pan cover, the springs and levers lightly chiselled inside and outside. Full stock veneered with engraved bone plaques, the butt box with bone cover. Original ramrod with bone cap. Length 148 cm. A superior early musket in rare, untouched original condition. €5,000.00
A Hussar's carbine. Hessen-Kassel, circa 1820. Rifled barrel with seven grooves in 15.6 mm caliber with swivel ramrod and brass front sight (rear sight is missing). "ELG" mark stamped at the breech. Iron flintlock with brass pan, the lock plate signed "G. Berleur Fbt d'armes a Liege" (G. Berleur, manufacturer of arms at Liege). Walnut full stock with cheekpiece, plain brass furniture. The originally present carbine ring missing. Length 75.5 cm. To our knowledge the first time an example of this weapon has been offered for sale. €4,000.00
A Masons Ironstone china jug, the blue semi-glazed body moulded in bold relief with bacchante supported by two figures of Pan and three infant bacchante riding on a donkey, naturalistic handle and shaped rim, 9ins high (black printed mark to base), and a Royal Doulton brown two tone glazed stoneware model of "The Old Sarum Kettle" (made for Watson & Co of Salisbury - chip to rim), with silver mounted spout and stopper, 10.5ins high, hallmarked Birmingham 1906

POTTER, BEATRIX. A group of 11 first editions of the works of Beatrix Potter, as under, with an interesting association; some were given to the children of Zorah Godden by Beatrix Potter's cousins H. Mary Hutton and Caroline Hutton of Harescombe Grange and some bear inscriptions to that effect or contain correspondence. Leslie Linder in 'A History of the Writings of Beatrix Potter' (Warne, 1971) refers to Beatrix Potter staying at Harescombe Grange and notes that "The Tale of Mr Tod" is dedicated to Caroline's son. 'The Roly-Poly Pudding' below contains, loosely inserted, an autograph letter (4-sides 12mo) from H. Mary Hutton to Zorah Godden dated Dec. 3rd 1908. "I am sending you for the children B. Potters 2 last books. Jemima Puddle-duck very likely you have, as it came out some weeks ago......but the other one has only been out about 10 days....I was stopping with B. Potter in the Autumn at her farm in the lake district which provided her with the chimney in "Roly-poly". Nearly all the indoor pictures in it are also taken from rooms in her farmhouse where she has a very nice hall, which she uses as a dining room, with about 8 oak doors in it furnished with brass handles. Very picturesque but somewhat draughty......" . 'The Tale of Jemima Puddle-duck' contains, loosely inserted, an autograph correspondence card, Dec. 8th 1908, from H. Mary Hutton "All the views in "Jemima" are taken from B.P."s little domain at Sawrey, near Lake Windemere ...". The collection comprises: THE TALE OF SQUIRREL NUTKIN.1903.
