Gothic type. Title printed in red and black surrounded by a border of 10 armorial woodcuts, full-page woodcut portrait of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I by Donat Hübschmann on verso, large emblematic etching by Johann Schlutpacher de Rauris (A6v), full-page woodcut by Hanns Lautensack of the standard-bearer Heinrich the younger, Burgrave of Meissen (E1r), 45 woodcut coat-of-arms in quire x, on Z1r woodcut device incorporating the arms of the printer, a Polish nobleman. (Stain on title and final leaf with colophon, sheet A1.6 somewhat browned, one sheet and one plate detached, short tear in fold of 4 plates, 3 plates just shaved on one side.) Contemporary limp vellum (small hole in spine, ties missing, a second book removed from the binding). It describes in detail and spectacularly illustrates the tournaments, staged battles (including an elaborate naval scene), balls and banquets, held at Vienna to honour the visit of Albrecht V Duke of Bavaria (1528-79), son-in-law of Emperor Ferdinand I and brother-in-law of King Maximilian of Bohemia (from 1564 Emperor Maximilian II). According to Graesse (II, 629), the Latin edition of the same year has different illustrations, which he describes as 'moins bonnes', and the same is true for Feyerabend's Frankfurt edition appended to Rüxner's Thurnier Buch (1566). The author served as Herald to John II Sigismund, King of Hungary. In complete condition with the full complement of etched plates, the book is OF THE GREATEST RARITY; both Ruggieri copies were imperfect and Bartsch describes only three of the etchings. A TALL COPY IN CONTEMPORARY WRAPPERS OF A RARE AND NOTORIOUS EDICT, which outlined the duties of the nobility, broadened and tightened their hold over the population, and increased the burden of serfdom following the Pugachev rebellion. This copy may have belonged to an associate of the trading company R. Van Brienen, owner of the Russian ship 'Soleure', now remembered for its peripheral role in the Spencer Perceval assasination. Engraved portrait of Takadaya-Kahei, and 4 engraved folding plans after Rikord. (Damptain in the bottom margin of some leaves, light scattered spotting.) Contemporary Russian red half sheep, spine label (spine foot repaired, small repairs on the endpapers). Provenance: 20th-century Russian booksellers (stamps on the endpapers). FIRST EDITION OF RIKORD'S EXPEDITION TO RESCUE GOLOVNIN. It constitutes an important and early first-hand account of contact between Japan and Russia. Rikord sailed to Japan on the Russian sloop-of-war Diana, taking on board a number of Japanese seamen shipwrecked off the coast of Kamchatka, and capturing Takadaya-Kahei and several crew from a large junk. He landed at Kunashie where he negotiated the eventual release of Golovnin, averting war with Japan. Golovnin later wrote a popular account of the experiences; both accounts were translated for an English edition in 1818. (M), Delftware... Catalogue of the Collection in The Victoria & Albert Museum, HMSO, 1997, Nos B135 & B175. ++First plate (bird) - in good condition with only one or two small spots of flaking around the rim and an insignificant fine short hairline crack at 4 o`clock. The other plate with rim chip at 10 o`clock and one or two spots of surface flaking around the rim but both good examples and free from restoration

An emerald and diamond three stone ring, the central octagonal shape emerald is in a sixteen claw setting flanked by old European cut diamonds. Estimated total diamond weight 3.01cts, colour L/Tinted, clarity SI1-2. Emerald weight 2.33cts. Condition: The ring is in overall good condition. The emerald is of medium green hue with an even saturation of colour running throughout the stone, there are typical inclusions scattered throughout the emerald that are not significantly affecting light passing through the stone. There are a couple of small surface reaching fractures and chips to the facet edges of the emerald. Both diamonds are fairly bright, they appear to be slightly abraded to the facet edges. All claws are secure with slight scratches to the ring shank. Ring size O.

An emerald and rose cut diamond cluster ring, the oval emerald cabochon within a rose cut diamond surround. Length 1.7cms. Weight 4.70gms. Condition: The ring is in fair to good condition. The emerald cabochon has a strong hue. Abrasion can be seen to the surface in the forms of chips and scratches. Inclusions are also visible with the unaided eye. The rose cut diamonds are bright. They may improve with a clean. The settings may need attention. Light scratches and scuffs can be seen to the ring, general wear. Ring size O.

An 18ct gold opal and diamond ring, the central oval cabochon opal is in a four claw setting flanked by three brilliant cut diamonds in a triangular shape formation. Estimated total diamond weight 0.18cts. Length of opal 1.6cms, width 0.8cms. Condition: The ring is in overall good condition. There are slight scratches to the ring in keeping with slight wear. The opal is quite grey in colour displaying yellows, pinks and lilac, there are sections of the opal where there is no play of colour. Ring size O.

An 18ct gold three stone diamond ring, each old European cut diamond is in a claw setting. Estimated total diamond weight 1.10cts, colour H-I, Clarity SI2-P2. Condition: The ring is in overall good condition. The back of the ring is quite thin, the diamonds vary in quality the central is quite cloudy and appears hazy. There are easily visible inclusions to the outer diamonds, some of the claws are quite worn. Ring size O.
