A French, early 19th century, straw-work box, believed to be Napoleonic prisoner of war work, richly decorated with cartouches to include fruit and agricultural motifs, the outside lid depicting a 2-decker man o' war under sail entering a fortified harbour (believed to be passing La Tour de la Lanterne, La Rochelle), the inner lift out box with four lidded compartments decorated on both sides, the inside lid showing an unidentified grand building, 30 by 19 by 11cm.

Tietzen, our congratulations for your 10th aerial victory" and "Molders 5 / JG51 25-7-1940" O / A, height 4.3, age toned, Provenance: Obtained direct from the family in the 1970`s, sold through a provincial auction, (Note to lot) Horst Tietzen`s wing of ME 109 fighters were in almost continuous action during the famous battle. With a total of 20 kills Tietzen was posthumously awarded the knights cross on 20-8-1940, some basic post-war research accompanies this lot "
