Manifattura Casali e Callegari, Pesaro, ultimo quarto del XVIII secolo. Servito da scrittoio "alla rosa di Pesaro" cm 29x21x9 Servito da scrittoio in maiolica con decoro floreale e bordi rossi composto da unico pezzo con 2 calamai e un portapenne A Pesaro nel 1763 viene fondata, per volontà del coltissimo Gianandrea Lazzarini, la manifattura di maiolica fina, incaricando due ceramisti di fine e aggiornato mestiere lodigiano, Antonio Casali e Filippo Callegari. La loro produzione riesce a raggiungere il successo grazie al continuo studio tecnico-artistico dei modelli di forme e decori. Ma il salto di qualità arriva attorno al 1776 quando riescono ad acquistare i segreti della tavolozza a piccolo fuoco. Straordinaria sarà l'interpretazione pesarese del motivo decorativo a piccolo fuoco più in voga in tutta Europa: un gioco floreale dal disegno stilizzato, dominato da una rosa recisa, chiamato spesso nei documenti d'epoca all'uso di Trasburgo perché derivante da un'invenzione della manifattura di maiolica Hannong a Strasburgo, in Francia. La rosa pesarese assume subito un carattere molto particolare nel disegno del bocciolo circolare e del petalo maggiore, che assume un disegno ovoidale o leggermente incurvato, chiamato con un sottile velo ironico a cozza, rendendolo facilmente riconoscibile. Questo porterà il motivo alla rosa pesarese ad ornare molti servizi da tavola, con crescente successo, entrando nella consuetudine del pregiato dono matrimoniale di alta classe.

An extremely rare and important Minton Maiolica game tureen and stand, the cover modelled as a boars head in Maiolica glazes with matching base and oval shaped stand, modelled in relief with twigs, the handle of a sword and quiver of arrows. The stand is 54cm long and tureen 28cm high with impressed factory mark, diamond registration mark for 1877 and a Minton date cipher. NOTE: Very few examples of this tureen were either made or have survived intact with original stand. An example from the Porter collection was sold in the United States by the Strawser Auction Group in June 2022 and a further example is in The Powerhouse Museum in Australiaminor chips to cover and tureen base the stand with section of rim (3cm approx) broken and re-stuck also end of the quiver of arrows broekn and re-stuck

A Castelli Maiolica Plaque, probably Francesco Antonio Saverio Grue, circa 1730, of oval form, painted with the Adoration of the Magi16cm by 13cmFor comparable examples see Arbace (Luciana) Francesco Antonio Saverio Grue (1686-1746), volume 3, and a documentary example inscribed Di Grue P A 1735 sold by Bonhams, New Bond Street, 4 December 2019. The unusual shape of the slightly convex plaque suggests that it was originally part of an altar or as a furniture mount.Typical minor glaze flakes and losses. Surface bubbles and pitting to the glaze. Some smudge marks to the decoration from the time of manufacture. No restoration.

A rare Urbino istoriato albarello, probably from the workshop of Guido Durantino (Guido Fontana), circa 1540The cylindrical body separated from the rounded shoulder and base by narrow hoops picked out in yellow, similar yellow lines around the neck and spreading footrim, painted with a continuous scene representing the story of Diana and Endymion, the Goddess and six handmaidens bathing naked in a stream, among rocks and trees, the lonely figure of Endymion seated on top of a nearby hill, looking into the distance, the landscape on the reverse including a distant town viewed through further trees, the interior mounted with a later copper reservoir, 28cm high (repair to a small section of the footrim, some chips to the moulded yellow bands repainted)Footnotes:Guido Durantino, originally from Castel Durante, was known to have run one of the largest maiolica workshops in Urbino employing many of the best painters in the city, especially for istoriato.
