10151934 Jowett 2-seater TourerReg. no. KFF 168Chassis no. 437699Engine no. 437699The Jowett car company of Bradford produced distinctive, well-made cars for 49 years between 1906 and 1955. In the 1920s and early 1930s, the company’s backbone was the 7hp range of cars, with these all using a flat-twin engine - the flat engine being a hallmark of almost all of the company’s cars until closure in 1955. Jowett 7s were known for their excellent flexibility and pulling-power low down in the rev range - perfect for hilly areas, as well as their reliability. This unique 1934 Jowett 7 special was commissioned by Fred Hollaway, owner of a collection of Group B rally cars, in the 1990s. All work was undertaken by Michael Koch-Osbourne, a grandson of William Jowett. A full history file is available with details of the work carried out, with costs adding up to £13,349.25 in March 1998. In order to make the car more sporting, the engine has been lowered by six inches in the frame, and has also been tuned to fast road specification, with high-compression pistons, twin carburettors, a lightened flywheel and a sports camshaft. It now produces 24bhp, which in a small car, with this custom-made two-seater sports body, should be enough for very respectable performance. The four-speed gearbox is operated via a period remote. A modern alternator has been fitted within the original dynamo housing, providing modern electrical performance and reliability without looking out-of-place. Overall, the car presents very well, and is said to drive equally well indeed. The vendor plans to drive it the 70 or so miles to the sale. It comes with the aforementioned history file, plus a V5C.Estimate: £6,000 - 7,000 To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on October 15th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Viewing is welcome prior to sale and all cars are sold as seen. Lots are not available to buy prior to auction. A fully illustrated catalogue is available on the Richard Edmonds Auctions website. Bids can be left with the auctioneer, made online, by telephone or live in person. All lots are subject to commission.Vehicles that are un-registered or on foreign plates may require Import Duty and VAT to be paid upon purchase via HMRC prior to registering with the DVLA for a UK plate, if you are not sure please ask. For classic cars over 30 years this equates to 5% Duty on the final value.

1953 Jowett Javelin saloon. Originally beige with red leather upholstery. This car was built in 1953 and allocated by Jowett Cars to 'Coventry & Jeffs' No. 2 Depot, Lansdown Garage, Clifton Road, Bristol on 27thDecember of that year. It appears that it was issued the registration number 'SAE 5' and was known to the Javelin Register, belonging to a keeper in Somerset in 1967. It changed hands in 1972 and the current keeper is understood to have acquired it in the 1980's as a restoration project. The current owner has kept the vehicle dry stored and has invested many hours across the last 40 years, completing the majority of the most time-consuming renovation works himself (he is a retired engineer, now in his 80's). The chassis has been fully rebuilt, as has the engine and most of the cars running gear. Other than the front grill, the car is believed to be mainly complete, and the parts, from our observations, seem to have been diligently wrapped, boxed or labelled. The fuel tank has been rebuilt. Some chrome parts and the un-attached rear wing require further work before being placed on the car. The original VIN plate is safely held in the cars file. The original 4-digit vehicle registration number is not guaranteed to be re-allocated to this vehicle by DVLA. The car does come with a couple of documents relating to communication with the club and DVLA as part of efforts made in the late 1990's and early noughties to apply for a V5 registration document, which so far has not been issued. For somebody with the skills to finish the renovation works, this should be a very attractive proposition, having had so much work completed already, and to what looks to be a very good standard. Interested parties will need to satisfy themselves as to the completeness of the parts crates, which are available to view at our premises on the viewing days. To satisfy your knowledge of the vehicles condition please come down to our viewing days as follows: Saturday 17th of September: 10am - 2pm Tuesday 20th of September: 9am - 7pm Our buyers premium on all cars, motorbikes and scooters is 10% + VAT.- We encourage any interested parties to inspect the vehicle on our viewing days and prior to sale on Wednesday 21st of September 2022 to satisfy themselves on the car's condition, please check our buying terms and conditions for cars and bikes available online or via email.Transportation options may be available, please contact us for a quote.

A Second War ‘Immediate’ D.F.M. awarded to Flight Sergeant D. E. Gwynne-Vaughan, Royal Canadian Air Force, an air gunner with 431 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron who, during an attack on Pforzheim in February 1945, destroyed one Ju.88 and got a probable second Distinguished Flying Medal, G.VI.R. (CAN/R.224884 F/Sgt. D. E. Gwynne-Vaughan. R.C.A.F.) good very fine £1,600-£2,000 --- D.F.M. London Gazette 5 June 1945. The official citation for an immediate D.F.M. [published jointly with Flight Sergeant M. S. Jowett, 431 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron] states: ‘As air gunners, these airmen have participated in very many sorties. They have set a fine example of determination and throughout their devotion to duty has been unfailing. Their coolness and courage in combat was amply demonstrated on one occasion in February 1945, when attacking Pforzheim. During the operation their aircraft was attacked eight times by enemy fighters, but these gunners, by their good shooting and excellent co-operation, beat off their attackers, one of which was shot down. Their conduct throughout this spirited action was exemplary.’ The original recommendation for Gwynne-Vaughan’s immediate D.F.M., submitted on 27 March 1945, states: ‘Gwynne-Vaughan, Donald Ellesworth, Flight Sergeant, R.C.A.F., No. 431 (RCAF) Sqn. (Immediate) Sorties 31, Flying hours 190.38. Air Gunner. Flight Sergeant Gwynne-Vaughan is an Air Gunner who has been an exceptionally valuable member of his crew. His extreme courage and coolness under fire and his fine offensive spirit in the face of extreme danger have been an inspiration and example to the other members of his crew. During an attack on Pforzheim on 23rd February, 1945, Flight Sergeant Gwynne-Vaughan’s aircraft was attacked by Ju.88s. Due to the superior skill and dogged determination of the Air Gunners and their splendid co-operation with the remainder of the crew, all of these attacks were beaten off and Flight Sergeant Gwynne-Vaughan destroyed one of them and got a probable second. For his courage and coolness in combat together with his cheerfulness and spirit of co-operation with his crew and Gunnery Leader, I strongly recommend the immediate award of the Distinguished Flying Medal for this N.C.O.’ Sold with copied London Gazette entry and recommendations for both airmen.
