Dorothy Procter is the subject of the book entitled Siege Lady by C.P.Hawkes and Marion Smithes, who at the time of the Siege of Oporto, 1832-1834, was stationed there with her husband, a director of the shippers and merchants Knowles, Procter & Bold. The present lot is accompanied by one volume of this book, a loose engraving depicting the siege and a group of manuscript copies of letters sent from Dorothy Procter to her brother at the time of the siege.
