A late Victorian multi gem set bracelet by Mrs Newman circa 1890 set along the length with oval mixed cut peridot amethyst purple sapphire and pink tourmaline with double chain link and scroll links between to a box snap clasp signed Mrs N for Mrs Philip Newman. Mrs Philip Newman studied the art of fine goldsmithing and jewellery design under the renowned John Brodgen. Their collaboration produced jewels in the latter nineteenth century which were favoured for their Egyptian and Etruscan influences and they exhibited at many International Exhibitions. Following John Bridgen's death in 1885 Mrs Newman established her own workshop in Saville Row and employed many of Brodgen's craftsmen. Mrs Newman used her own individual artistic designs along with Brodgen's worker's skills to create distinctive jewels in the best tradition of the late Victorian art jewellers
Opal jewellery: a gold bangle set with nine oval graduated opals flanked by 16 garnets, plus an art deco marquise shaped ring with circular central cabochon opal flanked by two small diamonds, a rough opal set as pendant on chain, a pair of opal earrings and a pear shaped opal pendant on gold chain.
