ORFINA PORSCHE DESIGN WATCH Chronograph around 1972/78. Black dial with 3 black counters, day and date indication by window at 3 o'clock. Automatic movement. Blackened steel bracelet with folding clasp signed Porsche Design. Case: 41mm It's hard to find a watch more linked to the automotive world than this Porsche Design. This is the first model designed by the Porsche Design workshops founded by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972 in Stuttgart. The famous designer of the 911 manages to breathe Porsche's own innovation into his creations. The chronograph was the first to adopt a PVD coating and the case, typical of the 1970s, was subsequently taken over by numerous brands, including Heuer for the Pasadena. The black dial with the red chronograph function hand is a reminder of the counters of the 911 and allows optimal reading of the time. The model is produced initially with a Valjoux 7750 movement and then with a Lemania 5100. The design of the watch seduces in the paddocks since the pilot Mario Andretti is known to have worn this model. Fans of the movie Top Gun will also have seen it on the wrist of Mavrick played by Tom Cruise. At the end of the 1970s, the IWC brand took over from Orfina and produced Porsche Design models, including the famous compass watch.
