Ian Auld (British, 1928-2000) Vessel Form, circa 1970 Stoneware, rough slab built form with mottled dry brown, ochre and cream glazes, a raised rectangular panel to each face with incised linear markings, impressed IA seal H 18cm, W 11cm square PROVENANCE: Private Collection, Bedfordshire. The following five lots are from the Estate of the Late Mary Lambert, British 1923-2013 Mary Lambert was christened Doreen Lambert and used the name Mary from about 1965. Mary's first job after leaving the Mount School in York was with the Civil Service making maps in the Air Ministry department. In 1944 Mary started attending evening classes at the York School of Art and during this time she exhibited a sculpted head of a fellow student, for which she gained much acclaim. Mary achieved a National Diploma in Painting, a Diploma in ceramics (both from Chelsea College of Art) a Diploma in Ceramics from Goldsmith's College, An ATD Teaching Diploma from London University. She was a teacher for 10 years at Hammersmith College of Art and 3 years at Willesden Polytechnic as well as the previous years at Isleworth Polytechnic which became Hounslow Borough College. Whilst at the Chelsea College of Art, she met many well-known artists including Victor Pasmore, Henry Moore and Mervyn Peake among others. She was great friends with John and June Berry, Ruth and Ian Auld, Steven and Jean Sykes and Erasmos Fernandez whom she was taught by.
