LA CRUCIFIXIONOleo sobre tabla de 44 x 34 cm. ncional de "Maestro del Hijo Pródigo" se agrupan una serie de obras de similares caracteristicas estilisticas que se atribuyen al autor del cuadro titulado "El Hijo Pródigo en galante compañía", conservado en el Kunsthistorisches Museum de Viena. Se trata de un pintor activo en Amberes donde dirigió un floreciente taller, por el número de obras que produjo y la cantidad de réplicas que se conocen. Su producción revela una relacion directa con P. Aertsen, P. Coecke, C. Van Cleeve y Frans Floris. Este pintor muestra una formación romanista y una fuerte vinculación a la tradicion flamenca. La gama cromática empleada es manierista, con predominio de los rojos y verdes intensos, con fuertes claroscuros. Sus figuras presentan unas características fisicas muy precisas, como los mentones prominentes o la nariz afilada. Los paisajes de fondo son minuciosos, siguiendo la tradición de Patinir y en ellos se sitúan otras escenas de reducida escala. ialmente activo a mediados del s.
