Baquoy was born and died in Paris. he was considered an eminent artist-engraver and among other things professor of drawing and an employee of the Musee Royal. He was the illustrator of the Kehl edition of Voltaire.

Nicholson (Francis). The Practice of Drawing and Painting Landscape From Nature, 1st ed., 1820, five engraved and aquatinted plates, including one folding hand-coloured, bookplate, original boards, spine worn, some stains, 4to. The artist Sir Francis Nicholson (14 November 1753 - 6 March 1844) was born in Pickering, North Yorkshire. He worked in watercolour and oil, and is mainly known as a landscape artist. He studied with a local artist in Scarborough, before beginning his career in his native Pickering, producing sporting pictures and portraits for a variety of Yorkshire patrons. By the mid-1780s he was also making paintings of country houses, leading him to concentrate on landscapes in watercolour. From 1789, he contributed views of both Yorkshire and Scotland to exhibitions at the Royal Academy. He also supplied topographical views for the Copper Plate Magazine. Although his market increasingly became London-based, Nicholson continued to live in Yorkshire - at Whitby, Knaresborough and Ripon. He did not move to London until about 1803. In 1804, he became a founder-member of the Society of Painters in Watercolours, and was a regular and prolific contributor to its exhibitions. Nicholson died in London and is buried there in Brompton Cemetery.. Abbey, Life, 162 (1)

Storer entitled “In the Leasow’s Salop, 1814” (dimensions 218 x 160mm), 11pp. of manuscript entitled “Historical Notices of Fountains Abbey” signed ‘J. Storer’ to final leaf, some dampstaining troughout and minor burn mark & slight damage to upper inner corner of final six leaves (note affecting text), a.e.g., 20th c. cloth gilt, 4to. Boyne 200. (1)

THOMAS CECIL HOWITT (1889-1968) ARCHITECT RECEPTION HALL OF THE EXCHANGE BUILDINGS NOTTINGHAM drawn by Cyril Arthur Farey (1888-1954), signed by Howitt and dated 1924, also inscribed on the mount with a title and T Cecil Howitt FRIBA, DSO, Chevalier de la Legion d` Honneur Architecte Angleterre, pen, pencil, ink and watercolour, 51 x 74.cm The inscription and curious title on the mount, "The Salle des Fetes Hotel de Ville Bucharest" was added (by Howitt`s senior assistant, F E Woolley) shortly after the drawing was received from Farey, because Howitt had, through a well placed contact in the diplomatic service, been recommended to the Romanian authorities. JOHN GENDALL (1789-1865) ST MARTIN`S CHURCH AND MOL`S COFFEE HOUSE EXETER pencil and gouache, 38.5 x 58cm The focus of the present drawing of the group of buildings in the northern corner of Exeter`s historic Cathedral Close is the famous timber framed Mol`s Coffee House of 1596, said to have been frequented by Drake, Raleigh and others. It was named after the proprietor, Thomas Mol and in the 19th century was occupied by the Exeter artist and drawing master, John Gendall. Of the church of St Martin, fragments of the original building on the site, consecrated in 1065 survive in the present largely 15th century structure.
