A RARE GUNNER'S FOLDING CALLIPER BY BERGE, LONDON, CIRCA 1800-08 of brass, comprising two symmetrical flat halves hinged at one end and finely engraved with scales for 'Quantity of Powder for filling the Chambers of Brass Mortars & Howitzers', 'Shot', 'Iron Guns proof Service' and 'Brass Guns proof Service', signed 'M Berge London', and retaining its iron tips 30.5cm; 12in extended John Berge (1742-1808) was apprenticed to Peter Dolland and worked with him until 1791. He became principle workman to Jesse Ramsden and succeeded him in 1800. See Taylor 1989, no. 571.
An exceptional early 19th Century bow fronted Mahogany stick barometer by Dolland, London. The silvered scale is in excellent condition as is the whole instrument. By the style and design of this magnificent barometer we understand it to have been made by George Dolland, 1771-1856, instrument maker to William IV and Queen Victoria

A 19th century mahogany bodied astronomical telescope, by Dolland, London, the body 43" overall, with small brass sighting telescope on left side, knurled brass adjusting knob, 2 mounting bolts with knurled brass nuts, 2 interchangeable lenses, a lacquered brass extension tube and a screw-in dust cap. Basically GC (some faults); together with a tall mahogany tripod having brass pillar into which the telescope mount plugs, the mount incorporating key operated elevating and traversing mechanisms (no key), the height to top of mount approximately 70". GC (requires cleaning); the telescope contained in its mahogany box 47" x 8" x 5", with brass keyhole escutcheon (the lid damaged, the base replaced with plywood); containing several non associated items including a lacquered brass table tripod, parts of a small brass telescope, and 2 other items. An historic 3 draw brass telescope carried by Colonel Sir James MacDowell, of the Coldstream Guards, who was awarded the KCB for his defence of Hougoumont during the Battle of Waterloo, wooden body (cracked) with 3 brass extensions, by Dolland, London, and engraved “Colonel Macdonnel Colstream (sic) Guards”, extended length 28”, hinged eyepiece cover, with its leather covered wooden case (case worn and damaged).
