A platinum, yellow sapphire and diamond ring, set with a 6mm round cut sapphire, and 0.50cts of brilliant cut diamonds, finger size P1/2, weight 5.3gms. Retailed by AG & Sons Ltd, with certificate. Condition Report:Diamonds are good quality graded on the certificate as F-G VVS, the sapphire has some inclusions these appear linear. The certificate is a bit misleading, it has added the carat weights of the sapphire and diamonds together which is an odd thing to do.

A WW2 era German Orts level political leader visor cap. Tan coloured crown with blue piping to indicate Ortsgruppe level. Political eagle, wreath and cockade set upon a brown velvet band, along with double cap cord and pebbled retaining buttons. Brown celluloid peak, stitched over a tan leather sweat band to the interior. The original brown ‘Tuchmütze’ RZM tag present under the sweatband, stamped with the Hersteller number 27, and the serial number 113960. Evidence of there once being a diamond shape label to the inside of the crown, but this has either perished or been removed. Condition: a time worn example. Some moth hole peppering to the top of the crown, and the front section where it meets the blue piping. The metal insignia is complete and intact, but the gilt finish to the eagle has almost completely worn away, with only a small trace to the roundel. The sweatband to the inside shows clear signs of having been worn, and there also appears to be some water staining to the inside (only visible to the inside).
A Swedish M1914 Mauser bayonet, complete with scabbard and leather frog. With curved wooden slab grips, curved morticed pommel, and release catch built in to the wooden grip. Steel blade of flattened diamond section, marked with a crown and letter C mark to the ricasso, and just a crown to the other side. Cross guard marked ‘I19 No.566’. Complete with parkerised scabbard, and brown leather frog. Approximately 50cm including scabbard and frog - blade length 33cm. Condition: generally good. Normal service and age related wear. The blade is clean and bright, with no evidence of it having been sharpened. Slight denting to one side of the scabbard, but a good overall colour to the finish. Good colour and patina to the leather.
A WW2 era Japanese type 90 battle damaged steel helmet. A semi relic piece, with just the shell remaining, and missing it’s applied star motif to the front. The helmet has a clean bullet entry point to the left side, and a larger exit point to the upper right side, clearly almost certainly a fatal wound for its wearer - a very grizzly reminder of the cost of war. 3 retaining loops still a fixed to the inside, and 4 small vent holes to the crown. Small letter S in a diamond lozenge stamped into the back skirt, indicatig that it was manufactured by Seiko of Kobe. Condition: loss of painted finish and some surface corrosion to both the outside and inside. Other than the obvious bullet damage, there are no other holes or splits to the metal.
An early German SA / NSKK dagger, by August Bickel. A time worn example, with wooden handle and an inset eagle and SA motif. Nickel plated cross guard and pommel, with retaining nut to the latter. Double edged spear point blade, of flattened diamond cross section. Etched motto to one side, reading ‘Alles für Deutschland’. No apparent ground off Rohm inscription to the other side of the blade. Maker mark near the ricasso for August Bickel Steinback Hallenberg. Complete with black painted scabbard, with nickel plated throat and chape. The throat also has a suspension ring. Approximately 37.7cm in the scabbard, blade length 21.2cm. Condition: fair. Fractures to both sides of the wooden handle, plus some old chips and losses to the wood around the areas of the SA badge and inset eagle. Some plate loss to the cross guard and pommel, but no apparent damage. There is also a very small amount of play in the cross guard. The blade has dulled with age and there is mottling to both sides. One side near the tip also has a small surface rust spot. The scabbard is complete, but there are losses to the plating on the throat and chape areas, and loss of black paint to the scabbard on both sides. The painted area of the scabbard also appears to have been cleaned with something abrasive in the past.
A fine quality, WW2 era private purchase Luftwaffe Officer’s visor cap, by Erel of Berlin. Manufactured by Robert Lubstein, and stamped ‘EREL PATENT STIRNSCHUTZ’ to the leather sweatband. To the underside of the sweatband there is also a date stamp of ‘18 MAI 1944’, and a size of 59 1/2. The cap is of traditional saddle shape, with silver piping, bullion quality Luftwaffe eagle, and winged oak leaves, with a metal cockade to the centre. Grey wool fabric construction, with mustard coloured silk. Celluloid diamond shaped panel stitched to the lining, but no visible makers details. Complete with cap cord, attached at east/west positions. Provence: acquired by the vendor’s father, while he served with the Royal Engineers during WW2. The serviceman was on bridge repair duties, south of Hanover, and discovered the abandoned former Glider School camp, Schafoldendorf while in the area. 2 photographs taken by the soldier (and dated July 1945), and included with the cap, show some wall paintings from the camp, with notes to the reverse side. Schafoldendorf later went on to become an RAF base. Condition: generally sound, with a little service and age wear. Small moth hole to the crown, plus a couple of ‘pin head’ sized moth nips. The cap is slightly out of round, likely from a long period of storage, and looks a little squashed to the north/south sides. The crown also has a little water staining to left hand side when looked at from above, which has given the surface a very slight brown tinge. Insignia is good, as is the cap cord and piping. The lining shows some age related brown staining, and normal staining to the leather sweatband. Slight stitching fault where the peak attaches to the body of the cap.
A WW1 era, German trench or boot knife. Of standard form, with shaped wooden slab grips, with each side having the distinctive diagonally cut grooves, and 2 rivets holding the grip in place. Steel cross guard with slightly curled over quillon. Single edged blade with flat spine, and flattened diamond shaped cross section. Complete with steel bayonet, with 2 raised rivets at the throat section. No apparent marks or dates. Length in scabbard approximately 28.2cm - blade length 14.5cm. Condition: generally good and solid. Service wear and patination to the wooden grips, plus darkening to the stell areas. Some darkening of the steel on the blade, and some evidence of sharpening. The cutting edge and point are still keenly sharp. The scabbard has attained a deep russet colour, and there are only traces of the black paint still present. One of the raised rivets has a little bit of movement, but it doesn’t detract overall.

The following year (1889) the business advertised as being clockmakers to the Queen, Prince of Wales, The Royal Observatory and The Lords of the Admiralty and continued under George Edward Frodsham until 1901 when he presumably retired; he died two years later. A James Whitfield is recorded in Loomes, Brian Clockmakers of Britain 1286-1700 as a watchmaker who died in Liverpool in 1674. Loomes also records a watchmaker named John Whitfield as born in Liverpool in 1677 and married in 1688. Details such as the style of the finely pieced and engraved balance cock, pierced Egyptian pillars, Tompion-type regulation and squared-off shouldered to the case hinges would suggest a date in the mid 1690's for the present watch. From this it is probable appropriate to suggest that the maker was possibly an unrecorded son of the watchmaker with the same name recorded by Loomes as dying in 1674. Condition Report: As catalogued the movement is lacking contrate wheel and arbor. The escapewheel arbor is also bent and the balance staff top pivot is broken or loose. The fusee chain is also unhooked form the barrel, otherwise movement appears to be in sound original condition with original gilding showing only minor rubbing/oxidation and only a few slight scuffs/scratches near the movement pillars. As catalogued the dial is lacking its hands otherwise is in fine original condition; the calendar will advance as it should. The inner case is in sound original condition; the suspension post has been re-attached with a small base-metal strengthening plate riveted to the interior and the bow is lacking; the surface exhibits shallow denting with minor evidence of dent removal to interior. The outer case shows overall moderate wear and shallow denting; there is a slight split concentric with and near to aperture at the hinge side and the button for the clasp is missing. There is no winding key included.
