Cross swords to base configured as in the 18th century, number 28? faintly impressed, cursive letters faintly incised. Small chip to base of handle, the finial to cover chipped. The cover also probably associated, apparently transferred at an early date from a smaller vessel in the same service.

Note: Danish-born Petersen apprenticed with Georg Jensen from 1908 to 1913. After moving to Montreal in 1929, he worked as master silversmith at H. Birks & Son. He started his own firm in 1944.
