* Alcock & Brown. An historic black and white press photograph showing Winston Churchill presenting the prize cheque for (10,000 to Alcock & Brown at the Savoy Hotel, June 20, 1919, light crease to lower lefthand corner, approx. 15 x 20 cm. Captain John Alcock and Lieut. Arthur Whitten Brown set off from St. Johns, Newfoundland, on 14 June, 1919 and just under sixteen hours later, on 16th June, they crash landed in a bog near Clifden in County Galway, Ireland, after a flight of some 1890 miles - they had completed the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic. Signed cheque for fifty pounds, made out to Miss Read on a London & Westminster Bank form, dated 28th September 1893, perforated cancellation stamp touching first name and middle initial, together with Rossetti (W.M.), signed cheque for sixty pounds, made out to his sister Miss Christina G. Rossetti on a London & Westminster Bank form, dated 3rd March 1894, ink and perforated cancellation stamps, the first affecting Christina's surname, the latter touching William's first initial (2)

A Shadow of Dante, being an Essay towards Himself, his World and his Pilgrimage, 1st ed., 1871, wood?eng. frontis. and four folding charts, some spotting at front and rear, inscribed on front free endpaper by author, 'To my dear Brother & chief helper in this work, William Michael Rossetti, 13th October 1871', with a handwritten note by William beneath, 'The Frontispiece, tho' actually drawn by Dunn, was designed by DR ? The Binding was designed by me, & set right by DGR, & the actual working?drawings done by Dunn, W.M.R., 1905', hinges sl. cracked, orig. gilt?dec. maroon cloth, spine torn with sl. loss at head, 8vo, together with a cheque for fifty pounds to H.T. Dunn, made out and signed by D.G. Rossetti on the printed form of the Union Bank of London, 10th February 1879, with perforated cancellation stamp across signature Henry Treffry Dunn (1838?1899) was Gabriel's studio assistant for twenty years. Autograph letter signed on letterhead, 263, Hampstead Road, [London], N.W., 13th November 1874, to George Routledge & Sons, concerning the publishing history of "More Mornings at Bow Street" and "Mornings at Bow Street", with a PS saying 'Neither of these works have the frontispiece described by our friend G.A. Sala, and a further note observing that Septimus Prowett was the publisher of his illustrated edition of "Punch and Judy", 2 pages on integral leaves with inner pages blank, 8vo, together with Weir (Harrison, 1824-1906), Autograph letter signed on letterhead, Hinwick, Lansdowne Road, Tonbridge Wells, 6th January 1888, to J. Harwood and enclosing a cheque for .11s.6d. for a ticket, 1 page, 8vo
Tennyson (Alfred, Lord, 1809-1892). Autograph letter signed ('A. Tennyson'), Farringford, Freshwater, Isle of Wight, 8th February 1871, thanking [the publisher George Routledge] for the cheque for 75.4[s.] 'due to me on account of my Illustrated Poems after January 1870', regretting a problem concerning a medallion portrait and continuing, 'There is a full-faced photograph of Mr. Woolmer's bust of me which is very good but then I fear it would have to be paid for', thanking Routledge for the interest in his 'little set of unpublished poems "The Window"' which were not intended for publication except with music by Sullivan, explaining that Mr. Payne, his then publisher, had taken the poems from his drawing-room table and subsequently published them in his Tennyson Concordance without the author's permission, and concluding 'the composer and his brother wrote such pathetic letters that I agreed not to put a stop to it by withdrawing "The Window"', with an initialled postscript written vertically at the letter's head offering to supply the name of the American publisher to whom "The Window" was offered, 4 pages, 8vo.

Concerning "the counterpart of the lease", and inviting Lady Antrim to lunch. Sold with a signed cheque of Joseph Hunton, 26th July 1825 - the last man to be hanged for forgery in England. (2)
