A fine Chinese ‘eggshell’ porcelain famille rose bowl decorated with figures, four character Qianlong seal mark, Republican period (1912-1949) delicately potted with thin walls and finely detailed potting rings, the exterior with a continuous figure scene design of figures at leisure playing checkers and reading a scroll in a stylized garden scene with rocks grass and pine, the base with a band of key pattern design in iron red, the top with a similar border comprising repeating lappet form designs and repeating geometric design, the interior with a central roundel comprising a curled dragon on a cell work ground and an iron red border of repeating lappet form designs beneath two bands of continuous beads, the base with a four character Qianlong seal mark. A characteristic of eggshell porcelain is that an exterior design can be seen on the interior under a good light as is the case here."
