An exceptionally rare 1920s Burgess & Leigh (Burleigh Ware) wall plaque, designed by Charlotte Rhead in the 4111 pattern, having a tube-lined decoration of an ornately dressed lady in profile, holding a bunch of grapes in front a parrot, the wings of the bird forming part of the border decoration. It is highly probable that Charlotte herself completed the decoration of this plaque, given the intricacy and quality of the tube-lining. The subject appears to have been copied from a painted design by Louis Swettenham for Burgess & Leigh, dating from 1921. Swettenham had previously worked for Doulton and Mintons.
