A complete set of four vintage mid century ceramic lidded sugar pots. Each of white ground with two tone design, one for London demerara sugar, one brown soft sugar, one caster sugar and one icing sugar. All bar one produced by Lord Nelson Pottery, the demerara sugar produced by Burleigh. Each measuring approx. 19cm tall.

A CLARICE CLIFF NEWPORT POTTERY WALL POCKET model 874, relief moulded with a swallow in flight in enamel colours over a cloud pocket in mushroom glaze, with transfer printed script signature to reverse, 20cm high; together with a pair of Burleigh Staffordshire spaniels, 20th century, 18.5cm high; and a Lladro figure, Mechanic Boy with hammer and toy truck, no.4897, 20.5cm high. Condition Report : Swallow with one broken and glue-repaired tail wing tip; Lladro with 8mm over-glazed firing crack at top of right leg; spaniels good. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting (where possible) any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
A 19th century 'God Speed the Plough' decorated water jug, dedicated in gilt to 'Thomas and Margaret Dean', transfer printed designs and rhyme, an Art Deco Burleigh ware palm tree jug, height 14cm, a Masons fruit basket design lustre-effect jug, and an Ian Hinchcliffe studio pottery cylindrical vase, impressed mark to the side, height 22.5cm, diameter 6cm (4).

The company announced her arrival in a full-page advert in 1927 in The Pottery Gazette. Burgess & Leigh had not made tube-lined pieces before Rhead joined the firm, but by March 1927 she had produced around fourteen new designs. Rhead's patterns were all numbered and a list of these designs remains in print.
