A Victorian eight day mantel clock striking on a bell (bell missing), the case with scroll acanthus feet, drop handles and acanthus borders to the body with stepped top rising to a two handled urn. The eight day two barrel movement has Brocot suspension (suspension spring missing), the face in ivory porcelain with black gothic numerals and cast fretted gilt centre with lion mask. 22x15x40cm. high.Good general condition, believed working but needing suspension spring for pendulum. One drop on one handle broken off, securing nut beneath urn missing.

A French chinoiserie style mantel clock by Achille Brocot & Sons, 1900-1920, the good quality hour and half hour bell striking movement signed 'A*B' and numbered '110011', within an elaborate and good quality pagoda style brass case with white metal and gilt panels depicting Oriental figures in landscapes, the silvered Roman dial with similar centre depicting Oriental gentleman seated at a table, 15in. CONDITION REPORT: Chips to edge of pediment and corners of base. Dial good condition (attractive colour). The chips are not large so an attractive slate clock.

A French Second Empire Boulle work mantle clock, with green stained tortoiseshell body, the movement stamped ABD for Achille Brocot and Delettrez, 30cm high There are some small areas of loss to the tortoiseshell on the front which have been filled with black wax/shellac. There are some losses to the enamel dial by the winding apertures.

The New York jewellers Black, Starr and Frost can trace their routes back to the firm of Marquand and Paulding established in Savannah, Georgia in 1801. Isaac Marquand moved to New York in 1810 and the business developed throughout the 19th century with evolution of owners changing the name to Ball, Black and Company. The incorporation of new partners Courtland Starr and Aaron Frost in 1876 resulted in the firm becoming Black, Starr and Frost. This partnership continued until around 1929 when Gorham and Company were incorporated into the firm changing the name to Black, Starr an Frost-Gorham Incorporated.
