C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd were formed in 2013 by Glen Chapman and Matthew Tredwen. They started in a small office in the Kent town of Strood, near Rochester. They held their first ever sale of Vintage Toys and Militaria on 2nd October 2013. The sale was an online and postal only auction with a viewing option at The Larkfield Priory Hotel, Larkfield, Kent. Highlights from this sale included a sealed pack of No 261 James Bond Aston Martin DB-5 models from Goldfinger which hammered at £5,500 and a Historically Important Great War Gallipoli Campaign Archive Belonging To Captain J H Lawson, Royal Engineers which hammered at £7,000
C&T Auctioneers held their first live room auction on the 8th January 2014, it was from this auction on that the venue was chosen as The Spa Hotel in Royal Tunbridge Wells. This sale was also very successful with a number of lots performing well above estimate in both departments.
Although the plan was to always split the two collecting fields up eventually, C&T decided to do this much quicker, with dedicated specialist auctions of Vintage Toys and Militaria after the January 2014 auction. It was after this time that the business started to snowball and gain momentum. In 2015 after the closure on Antique Doll & Toy auctions at international Auction House, Bonhams, C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd were joined by Leigh Gotch and James Opie. Leigh introducing Antique Doll, Dolls Houses & Teddy Bear auctions and James Toy Soldier & Figure auctions.
The business continued to grow with these two new specialists joining and C&T made the plunge and moved to much larger offices in the village of Kenardington near Ashford, Kent. The business was joined by Books, Paperwork & Ephemera specialist Tim Harper and in 2018 George Champ who runs the Antiques & Collectors department with a specialist knowledge of coins and antique silver.
As of March 2020 all the auctions are held online and continue to dedicated Webcast and Postal auctions. With most auctions offering bidders two online portals to bid through, C&T Live or the-salesroom.com. There is also the options for absentee bids left directly with C&T or telephone bidding.
Much of the success of C&T Auctioneers and Valuers Ltd is down to the very hard working staff, which work behind the scenes to offer our clients, both buyers and sellers, a smooth service at auction.
