A SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1795 TYPE III INFANTRY MUSKET, 1813. 44 1/2 in., .70 caliber barrel with eagle over 'CT' mark on the left side of the breech and 'US' on the top; flat lock plate with pointed tail marked '1813' and 'US' with a spread wing eagle and 'SPRINGFIELD' below the pan; walnut stock with partially obscured cartouche behind the side plate; iron furniture including a butt plate with a blunt tang, trigger guard with blunt finials, flat 'S' side plate, and three barrel bands, sling swivel, improper rammer; with a socket bayonet with 'T' slot in the socket, and leather covered flask containing lead shot. Overall lg. 59 3/4 in. Condition: Iron toned to deep brown and with fine pitting; lock is held to stock by two threaded posts attached to the lock plate and secured on the side plate by hexagonal nuts (could likely easily replaced with proper side nails), vent does not line up with pan (barrel possibly old reconversion), steel is replaced, action engages only on full-cock; stock has old surface, dings, dents and scratches.
