UTAGAWA HIROSHIGE (1797-1858) Edo period (1615-1868), mid-19th century 16 prints of various formats, sizes and subjects, including: an oban yoko-e of Yoshiwara Nakanocho, yozakura (Cherry Blossoms at Yoshiwara at Night) from the series Toto meisho (Famous Places in the Eastern Capital); an aiban yoko-e of Goyu from the Gyosho Tokaido series; an oban tate-e of Uguisuzuka (The Grave of Uguisu) from the series Chuko adauchi zue (Illustrations of Loyalty and Vengeance); an oban tate-e of Sojo Henjo from the series Ogura nazorae Hyakunin Isshu (Patterned on the Ogura 100 Poems by 100 Poets); two oban tate-e prints from the series Gojusantsugi meisho zue (Famous Places of the 53 Stations); three oban yoko-e from the series Koto shokei (Fine Views of Edo); all variously published and variously signed; together with a print, titled Akasaka, and with a collector's seal H. VEVER, apparently excised from the original oban print from the series Gojusantsugi harimaze (Cut outs from the 53 Stations), which comprised four views on one sheet, unsigned; some in a card mount. The smallest: 17cm x 11.9cm (6 11/16in x 4 5/8in); the largest: 37.7cm x 25.4cm (14 13/16in x 10in). (17).
