A LACQUERED-BURLWOOD LARGE BOWL Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, 20th century Of irregular from, the interior painted and lacquered in red and gold takamaki-e with the distinctive red-coloured sacred Shin Bridge spanning the Daiya River, leading to the Nikko Futarasan Shrine, beneath the prominent Tokugawa mon in the form of three aoi (hollyhocks); the exterior of natural burlwood; unsigned. 11cm x 33cm (4¼in x 13in). Footnotes: Provenance: An English private collection, bequeathed to the current owner by his great aunt. Exhibited: 'The House of the Setting Sun', Lakeland Arts Trust, Blackwell - The Arts and Craft House, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, 26 March - 10 October 2021.
