A LACQUERED-BURLWOOD LARGE BOWL Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, 20th century Of irregular from, the interior painted and lacquered in red and gold takamaki-e with the distinctive red-coloured sacred Shin Bridge spanning the Daiya River, leading to the Nikko Futarasan Shrine, beneath the prominent Tokugawa mon in the form of three aoi (hollyhocks); the exterior of natural burlwood; unsigned. 11cm x 33cm (4¼in x 13in).
