ANONYMOUS, TOSA SCHOOL Edo period (1615-1868), 17th/18th century A six-panel byobu (folding screen), in ink, colour and gold on paper with silk borders mounted on a wood lattice and within a black lacquer frame, depicting different chapters from Genji monogatari (Tale of Genji), the famous novel of Heian court life, separated by characteristic scalloped gold clouds; signed on the far right panel with a red tsubo-shaped seal in the bottom corner. Overall: 121cm x 286cm (47 5/8in x 112 9/16in); image 108.5cm x 270.8cm (42 11/16in x 106 5/8in). Lot to be sold without reserve.
