Elisabeth Wolf (born 1873) 'Ohan of Benin' - Queen Ohan Akenzua, royal wife of Oba Akenzua II signed 'Elizabeth Wolf' (upper right), dated 'Sept 1950' and inscribed with title (upper left) chalk and pastel 60.3 x 45.1cm (23 3/4 x 17 3/4in). Together with 3 black and white photographs and one sketch. Footnotes: Exhibited London, The Studio Club, Exhibition of Paintings and Drawings by Elizabeth Wolf', October 1950, catalogue no. 17. In 1950, Elizabeth Wolf, along with sculptor Barney Seale, were commissioned to produce portraits of the Oba and Ohan of Benin. The photographs included in this lot show the Ohan of Benin sitting for her portrait with Wolf and Searle working on their respective likenesses.
