Isamu Sakamoto (Japanese, b. 1931)
"Temple Gate on Mountain". Woodblock print, ca. 1972, signed, dated titled in Japanese, numbered 11/80 in the lower margin, signed, dated and with red chop mark in lower left of the image, in a black metal frame overall 24-1/4" x 18-1/4".
Born in 1931 in Fukushima prefecture, Sakamoto graduated in 1961 from Musashino College of Fine Arts Junior College. He was a member of Nippankai (Japan Print Association; also known as Nihon Hangakai) from 1965 and Shin Seiki Bijutsu Kyokai (New Century Fine Art Association, founded by oil painters in 1955) from 1966. His prints often feature landscapes and traditional buildings.
