Original hand coloured lithograph from Portraits of the Game and Wild Animals of Southern Africa, Delineated from Life in Their Natural Haunts, During a Hunting Expedition From the Cape Colony as Far as the Tropic of Capricorn in 1836 & 1837, with sketches of the field sports: Hippopotamus Ampibius - The Hippopotamus XVII.
The lithograph was previously framed, scattered light foxing, slightly attached on one side to mat board.
"One of the rarest and most important works on large game in Africa. This folio was published in five parts containing in total 30 colour plates of the animals that Harris encountered while traveling and hunting in South Africa" (Mendelsohn).
