Prestigious Football League Cup gold medal from 2002. The Football League Cup is open to all English Clubs playing in The Football League, and is one of the ''Big Three'' domestic English football competitions, the others being the Premier League and the Football Association (FA) Cup. The Blackburn Rovers defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the final. Medal was awarded to Rovers' coach Phil Boersma, who played for Liverpool, where he won the League Championship and the UEFA Cup. Medal in 9 ct gold reads, ''The / Football / League / Cup'' above a trophy cup on the front. Reverse side is engraved ''Season / 2001-2002'', with laurel sprigs on the bottom and a several marks, including 375 gold stamp, and V&S maker's mark. With an integral hanging loop attached with the shape of the numeral XLII commemorating 42 years of the Football League Cup. Lot includes a program and ticket from the match, Phil Boersma signed 4'' x 6'' photo from his time in the multiple championship winning Liverpool FC and a photo of the Blackburn Rovers wearing their medals and posing with the trophy just after their win; all near fine.
