A Chinese mother of pearl and jade inlaid rosewood hexagonal treasure box, Qing Dynasty, the moulded cover with a central nephrite jade bell form finial finely carved with bats, dragons, flowers and foliage, surrounded by four mother-of-pearl bats within a meandering flower border, each of the five sides inlaid with mother-of-pearl birds and insects in branches and lines of script within fret and flower borders, the interior with lift-out tray, 30cm high, 30cm across. A box containing an assortment of various sundry items to include a cast iron figure of a whippet AFTER MENE, a jade carved panel depicting a crane in a landscape, a jade lidded box, a leaded dish with Japanese figures and central compass, etc CONDITION REPORTS Jade lidded box - break and repair to foot, various small cracks and splits especially to the carved foot and throughout, small chips and cracks throughout - please see images for further details. An early 20th century Chinese green jade butterfly pendant with green jadeite pendant drop, coral bead spacers and double jade rings, all suspended on a woven black cord, a pair of faceted green jade hoop ear pendants, a carved jade belt ornament and a green jade carved and pierced plaque brooch having floral decoration and a central Mon badge mounted in a cast silver mount with safety chain. Provenance: The Chinese jade necklace, earrings and brooch - a gift from Myfanwy Wood to her sister. Mary Myfanwy Wood (aka Wu Yingzhen, Wu Ying-chen and Wu Ying Chun) (16 September 1882-22 January 1967) was a British missionary in china from 1908 to 1951. She was Head teacher of the Girls Middle School in Beijing and assisted the emerging Christian church in the China for Christ Movement and in 1922 she organized a National Christian conference in Shanghai. In 1926 she became a lecturer at Yenching University in Peking and 1928 she became head of the department of religious studies there.
