A CHINESE PEWTER FOOD WARMER SET QING DYNASTY Comprising: a water bowl, a food container and a cover also used as a tray, all of hexagonal shape. The two vessels set with angular C-shaped jade handles, the body incised with a bird on a branch of a willow tree and a spray of bamboo to one side, and inscribed with two poems by Zhu Shi Mei to the reverse, 18cm. A MASSIVE CHINESE JADE BOULDER AND A LAPIS LAZULI CARVING OF A MOUNTAIN LATE QING DYNASTY Carved in high relief with a figure of a scholar with a brush in his hand standing in a mountain pass among pine trees, a four character inscription picked out with red paste reading shou bi nan shan. The lapis lazuli mountain carved with pagodas and bridges, together with a hardwood stand, 32.5cm. A CHINESE KNIFE WITH A CLOISONNE SHEATH QING DYNASTY The handle pale celadon jade, the sheath decorated with stylised bats amidst clouds on a turquoise ground, 27cm. (2) The use of knives at meals was a mark of Manchu identity. When eating sacrificial pork, men and women were expected to cut up their own meat. Knives and other eating utensils often formed part of the dowries of princesses.
A SMALL CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE FIGURE AND AN ENAMEL QUATREFOIL DISH QING DYNASTY The figure wearing flowing robes with banana leaves over her shoulder and a ruyi sceptre, mounted on a wooden stand, the dish with a spray of various blossoms and fruit, a band of pink diaper and stylised blossoms to the rim, 11.8cm.
