UNUSUAL BRONZE, CLOISONNE AND JADE MOUNTED CENSER, QIANLONG PERIOD AND LATER the ornate Qianlong cloisonne enamelled cover decoarted with scrolling lotus blossom and with openwork panels of clouds, and surmounted by a brightly enamelled bat, the later Qing body chased with further foliate decoration, flanked by a pair of lion mask and loop handles, and set with five carved jade figures, the whole raised on elephant mask feet, Height: 27.5cm high. Provenance: Acquired by the vendor’s grandfather, and thence by descent. As personal valet to William Kissam Vanderbilt III between 1919 and 1923, he travelled extensively, collecting artefacts as he went. After attending Oxford University, he travelled through the East in the 1950s, eventually becoming an English language newsreader on broadcast radio in Israel. Returning back home he was involved with the Anglo-Jewish Society.
