EROTIC SCENE WITH INSCRIPTION. 1st-2nd century A.D.Stone 9x11 mm; int. size 18x21 mm; 14,97 grA naked male character with an erected phallus supports himself with his left hand on a stick, while with his right he holds onto the horns of the satyr. The satyr penetrates him from behind, pressing his side with his left hand to push harder. Greek inscription in the field (KYMA?). The bright red color of the stone prefectly alludes to this fine composed homo-erotic scene.Provenance: From a private collection, France, acquired from D.C. collection, London.

SEATED MERCURY. 2nd century A.D.Stone 11x16 mm; int. diam 18 mm; 7.53 grWith rounded hoop expanding onto shoulders in volute shape and surmounted by an oval grooved box-setting with a platted twisted gold wire. This beautiful intaglio shows the young deity seated on the rocks with the head facing right, and the body in three-quarters. With the left hand he holds a stick. Probably an allegory of the creation of the caduceus. Near the rocks, on the left, a ram. Groundline. Great rendering of the anatomical details. Fantastic color of the stone. Wear marks. Late 19th Century Gull Wing Knitting Stick, with floral and heart incised decoration, turned and stepped handle, 24cm, Another of a Similar Date, with a turned handle and good patina, 23cm, two others, a 'Goose's Thropple' this was used in cottages by knitters, incorporating a length of dried windpipe made into a loop with a dried pea placed inside, the wool was then wrapped around this, therefore if the ball rolled away, a quick jerk on the wool would make the thropple rattle and the ball could be found, a handwritten letter to Mrs Goodchild from Ellen Eyres of Keswick, a Teasel Bat on a wooden frame, used for brushing up the nap on the finished cloth, 25cm wide by 23cm high, tin knitting needle case (6)Private Knitting Stick Collection
