A SMALL COLLECTION OF CHINESE JADE ITEMS QING DYNASTY Comprising: two celadon and russet jade bi carved with chilong mounted in a wood frame, a russet belthook terminating in the head of a bird, a pale celadon belthook carved with dragons, a white jade rectangular pendant decorated with a lotus growing amidst rockwork, an openwork pale celadon disc, a jadeite hair ornament, and five animal carvings, four of the items together with separate wood stands, 21.5cm max. TWO CHINESE JADE ITEMS AND A ROCK CRYSTAL INCENSE BURNER AND COVER QING DYNASTY One jade item a bi worked in relief with a chilong holding lingzhi, the mythical beast picked out in a calcified section of the stone, together with a wood stand, the other jade item carved as a twin-handled cup, with chilong masks to the handles, the rock crystal incense burner decorated with a band of archaistic motifs, with four stylised phoenix medallions to the cover, carved in relief to two sides with handles formed as lingzhi, 11.3cm max. (5) Provenance: from the collection of Sir Raymond Smith KBE (1917-2002) and Lady Smith (1918-1996).

NINE CHINESE ARCHAISTIC YELLOW AND CELADON JADE PENDANTS PROBABLY QING DYNASTY Variously carved as animals, birds, mythical beasts and figures, most with calcification or inclusions in the stone, all with holes for suspension, 11cm max. (9) Provenance: from the collection of David Taylor (1876-1958) and thence by descent. David Taylor was a successful businessman of Scottish descent who was born in Northern Ireland. He resided in Belfast and owned various commercial buildings, shops and a farm. He also had a substantial portfolio of stocks and shares. These jade items were acquired by Taylor during his travels to East Asia in the early 20th century.

A GROUP OF FIFTEEN CHINESE CELADON JADE BELTHOOKS LATE QING DYNASTY Each with the shaft terminating in an animal mask, one carved with a horse head, the others with mythical beasts, seven drilled with holes for suspension, most with small inclusions in the stone, 9.5cm max. (15) Provenance: from the collection of Mary Colinet (née Skiotis), and thence by descent. Mary Colinet was born in Beijing on 20th August 1928. She married her husband Paul Colinet in Tianjin in September 1947 and later left Tianjin for France in 1953. Mary collected Chinese art and antiques, particularly during the period between 1964 and 1975 when she lived in Hong Kong. Mary spoke Greek as her first language and was also proficient in Mandarin, English and French.

Provenance: from the collection of Professor Anne Birrell (1950-2020). Professor Birrell taught Chinese and Chinese literature at Cambridge University and the City University of New York. Head 16.50mm, 13.16g.Finger size N approximatelyCondition report: The noticeably paler, less saturated jade bead may be a later replacement. 10 and 12 to the lower shank. There is a slight difference in the colour of the two diamonds and the one at the tip of the paler bead may also be a replacement. Tarnish to the head.
