Today’ with the left hand side engraved with the maker’s name ‘J.B. Dancer, Manchester’, the right hand scale engraved ‘Add one tenth for each ninety feet above the sea’, both with wind indication, with a bone thermometer set within the trunk, the oak case having a castellated top and Gothic carved mouldings, height 100cm. * John Benjamin Dancer is recorded as working at 13, Cross Street, Manchester, from before 1841 until after 1845 and was ‘By appointment to Her Majesties Commissionaires’.
